About the role

Originate and underwrite commercial real estate loan investments that meet the company’s volume, yield and quality criteria. Achieve this by developing mortgage banker and borrower relationships and by being familiar with identified real estate markets. Manage each new investment from the initial inquiry through quoting, negotiating, underwriting, due diligence and approval processes. This is a hybrid role with required travel to the Bellevue/designated office a couple times per week and for in-person events a few times per year.


What you will do

  • Develop and maintain relationships with mortgage bankers (“correspondents”), mortgage brokers and borrowers through lending program education/training, providing feedback and sales efforts. Tour markets throughout the country to become familiar with commercial real estate values and trend; inspect individual properties (total travel time approximately 25-30%).
  • Evaluate (“underwrite”) new investment proposals and re-underwrite existing investments including valuation analysis and determination of investment strengths, weaknesses and mitigating factors. Propose appropriate investment structures and pricing to management and team members.
  • Quote various investment alternatives to mortgage bankers and borrower and negotiate transaction terms (e.g. loan amount, interest rate, amortization, recourse) and conditions. Issue applications in coordination with legal and underwriting analyst resources.
  • Participate in preparation of the loan approval memos to include responsibility for transaction strengths and weaknesses, recommendations and economic underwriting.
  • Participate in loan underwriting and due diligence teams and improvement initiatives.

Compensation

Salary Range: $150,000 – $170,000 plus eligibility for incentive compensation

Who you are

  • Degree/Certification preferred: Bachelors.
  • Minimum years experience required: 5, Minimum years experience preferred: 10
  • Knowledge of commercial real estate, real estate valuation, loan structuring and the loan origination process enabling the evaluation of loan quality, risk and pricing.
  • Ability to negotiate medium to large commercial real estate loan terms and conditions.
  • Five years minimum real estate originator or other commercial real estate finance experience.
  • Proven skills in customer and intermediary relationship building and marketing as demonstrated by past origination volume.
  • Oral and written skills enabling effective one-on-one and small group communication.
  • Attention to details and accuracy when performing valuation, underwriting and loan recommendations.
  • Sound basic mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Computer skills – strong proficiency in Word, Excel, e-mail, Web.
  • High school diploma required.
  • This is a remote role with required travel to the Bellevue office for in-person events a few times per year.
