Who We Are

COOP is building a diverse movement of upwardly mobile first-generation college grads overcoming underemployment through digital skills and peer connections. We connect un-/underemployed first-gen college graduates to one another—within cohorts and across “generations” of cohorts. Our intervention for underemployed graduates has produced compelling wage outcomes for thousands of first-generation and low-income grads in New York, California, Illinois, and Florida.

What You Will Do

As the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications (Digital Communications) at COOP Careers, you will shape and lead the strategic direction of the organization’s digital communications initiatives. You will oversee the organization’s digital presence, elevate brand visibility, and drive meaningful engagement across all owned platforms. Your work will include developing compelling content, executing email marketing campaigns, managing the organization’s website, and leveraging data analytics to optimize communications strategies.

Responsibilities

Execution (45%)

  • Manage technical aspects and day-to-day operations of COOP’s email marketing platforms and customer relationship management software
  • Design, test, and optimize responsive HTML email templates
  • Build targeted audience segments based on email behavioral data and CRM attributes
  • Ensure quality control (i.e. writing, proofing, voice, and execution) for all email communications
  • Manage and update website content, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and timeliness
  • Manage third-party tools and integrations, such as content management systems (CMS), e-commerce platforms, and plugins
  • Oversee the design and functionality of the website, making improvements as necessary
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support integrated communication efforts including SMS, email, web, and other owned media

Optimization (25%)

  • Build and optimize landing pages and forms to support both inbound and outbound marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate with internal IT department to develop ways to integrate communications and data into CRM
  • Stay up-to-date on new technologies, online communications systems, and digital strategies to help move COOP to the cutting edge of digital communications
  • Monitor website performance, including site speed, uptime, and security, and implement solutions to address issues that might arise
  • Optimize website for SEO, ensuring content is structured for search engine visibility
  • Analyze website analytics to track user behavior and recommend improvements
  • Ensure the website is responsive and mobile-friendly across all devices

Strategy and Planning (20%)

  • Lead marketing team in creation and implementation of digital marketing strategies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement SMS and email campaigns; website audits
  • Develop and ensure streamlined workflow and approval processes for digital communications campaigns
  • Utilize data analytics to measure the effectiveness of digital campaigns, making data-driven decisions for optimization including email, text, and web

Team Management (5%)

  • Develop standard operating procedures for digital communications
  • Train staff on appropriate digital communications strategies and tactics
  • Collaborate with the IT department and outside vendors regarding the development and management of our customer relationship management (CRM), email marketing, text messaging, and website software and platforms
  • Lead projects for website redesigns or upgrades as needed
  • Mentor a team of digital communications professionals, providing guidance and support
  • Make decisions in the absence of the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications

Other (5%)

  • Provide copywriting and proofreading support for other digital communications including, but not limited to, curriculum within the Brightspace LMS, decks, and other tasks as assigned

Who We Need

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in designing and deploying communications using professional email software, such as iContact, Luminate Online, Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (formerly Pardot), or RENXT. You will also be adept at building complex, segmented audiences and workflows to maximize the impact of digital campaigns.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant experience with a focus on digital communications
  • Proficiency with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, MCAE (formerly Pardot) or other comparable email CRM required
  • Knowledge of HTML and CRM systems for email campaign building, segmentation, and testing
  • Willingness to learn about, or direct experience, managing a website; Squarespace experience a plus
  • Excellent written communication, proofreading, and copywriting skills with an eye towards content development and graphic design
  • Ability to work independently, lead by example, make decisions, and motivate and influence positive behaviors

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in email marketing software and hands-on experience coding emails in HTML.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with various departments to generate strategies, messaging, creative development (including copywriting and design), and deployment for:
    • Annual, monthly, and ad hoc email campaigns
    • Website updates
    • SMS campaigns
  • Strong project management skills to oversee multiple digital marketing initiatives simultaneously.
  • Preference for candidates based in New York City or the Bay Area

What We Offer You

  • Base Annual Salary: $85,000- $95,000 (commensurate with experience)

Currently, all COOP team members are working remotely and attending a once-a-month in-person coworking and team-building day at our co-located space in lower Manhattan (Civic Hall, 124 E 14th St, New York, NY 10003) for NYC team members and in San Francisco (Swissnex, San Francisco Pier 17, The Embarcadero Suite 800, San Francisco, CA 94111) for Bay Area team members or a mutually convenient coworking location for our Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami team members.

Residency Policy

All employees must reside within commuting distance (approximately two hours) of a COOP Program site located in the following cities: Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Bay Area, and within the states of CA, CT, FL, IL, IN, NJ or NY.
