Optim Health System seeks a PRN Athletic Trainer Certified to provide athletic training services, manage athlete care, and promote community outreach under the supervision of the Medical Director.

Optim Health System is seeking a PRN Athletic Trainer Certified - Outreach Setting.

Job Title: Athletic Trainer Certified – Outreach Setting
Reports: Sports Medicine Region Coordinator / Director of Sports Medicine

SUMMARY: The Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) in the outreach setting is responsible for the provision of athletic training services for assigned schools, school systems, sports clubs and/or organizations, community sporting events, or other community activities under the supervision of the Medical Director of Sports Medicine and/or designated Team Physician(s), in accordance with the Georgia State Athletic Training Practice Act and the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), and as a representative Optim Medical Center – Tattnall. The ATC is also responsible to case manage/navigate injured athletes/patients that require referral to a higher level of care, market/promote OMCT physicians, services, and facilities, implement and/or participate in educational activities related to sports medicine, orthopedics, and wellness, and otherwise serve as a community relationship manager for his/her assigned service area(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages athletic injuries under the supervision of the designated team physician and based on the Georgia State Practice Act and the NATABOC’s six practice domains, which include;
  • Prevention
  • Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis
  • Immediate Care
  • Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Reconditioning
  • Organization and Administration and Professional Responsibility
Performs athletic training services specific to the contractual obligations agreed upon by Optim Medical Center – Tattnall and the assigned schools, school systems, sports clubs and/or organizations, community sporting events, or other community activities.
Serves as the primary case manager/patient navigator for athletic injuries that require referral to a higher level of care when consulted by students, parents, coaches, community members, etc. Specific duties:
  • Maintains athlete records with current demographic and insurance information in a timely manner.
  • Streamlines/facilitates physician appointments as requested/needed.
  • Attends physician appointments with athletes when feasible and as permitted but always communicates injuries and understands and caries out providers plan.
  • Educates stakeholders regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, etc.
  • Call athletes immediately after surgery. Primary contact for post-op questions.
  • Serves as a liaison between stakeholders regarding injury status, return to play, etc.
  • Contacts parents or guardians when injuries occur to explain options and approach.
  • Actively engages and maintains a consistent marketing effort at their assigned school or organization.

In general, utilizes his/her role as an ATC to create opportunities to directly market, promote, educate, network, and otherwise represent OMCT’s physicians, menu of services, and/or facilities in the community(s) served.
Serves as the primary Optim relationship manager for coaches, teachers, faculty, staff, parents, and students at assigned school(s). Specific duties may include:
  • Available to assist school nursing with athletic type injuries as needed/consulted.
  • Implements wellness programs for faculty/staff at assigned school(s) as requested.
  • Participates in healthcare education activities at assigned school(s) as requested.
  • Attends and speaks at parent/coaches meetings to provide education and program insight.
  • Coordinates and/or offers CPR/first aid certification for faculty/staff as requested.
  • Networks with school booster clubs/organizations.

Serves as the primary Optim Sports Medicine relationship manager for community stakeholders in assigned county or city. Specific duties may include:
  • Partners with local primary care for help with non-ortho athletic injuries.
  • Partners with local primary care for help with annual sports physicals.
  • Partners with local primary care to help with referrals to Optim as needed.
  • Available to recreational sports organizations for injury prevention education.
  • Available to recreational sports organizations for injury consults as requested.
  • Networks with local civic clubs to promote ATC work at assigned school(s).
  • Networks with local media outlets to promote ATC work at assigned school(s).
  • Develops/implements community education activities on injury prevention.
  • Participates in Optim sponsored community events as requested/needed.
Completes all weekly, monthly, and annual reporting requirements on time and in the requested format to ensure appropriate documentation of athletic training activities for senior leadership.
Attends all required departmental meetings.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in health related field, with current NATA-BOC certification, and/or current Georgia Licensed Athletic Trainer required. One or two years in athletic training experience preferred. Entry level graduates with NATA-BOC certification will be considered.


Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
