High school diploma or equivalent (preferred), technical training in clerical tasks, bilingual fluency in Spanish desired, and experience in teaching, management, database management, and Microsoft Word is preferred. Must pass a criminal background check.

Organize and operate the Career and College Readiness program, provide career information to students and parents, arrange guest speakers, maintain scholarship listings, assist students with job applications, and participate in after-hours events.

Established in 1995, Dunn Police Athletic & Activities League, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving back to the community by spearheading afterschool programs for children. The activities we organize and operate include, but are not limited to College & Career Readiness, Mentoring, After-school Program, Media Arts, Youth Leadership Council, Field Trips, various sports like basketball, wrestling, flag football, and others. JOB TITLE: Career & College Readiness Specialist
REPORTS TO: PAL Director, PAL Afterschool Coordinator, JCPC Coordinator
JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Dunn PAL Director and PAL Afterschool Coordinator; organize, maintain and operate the Dunn PAL Career and College Readiness Technical Education Program and provide a wide variety of career information and materials; communicate with students, faculty, parents and community representatives concerning career planning and college entrance. Provide administrative assistance and referrals to the CTE coordinator and counselors at local schools as needed. This role is important to the mission of having students career and college ready upon graduation.
Hourly rate: $14-15 hr.
Expected hours Monday thru Friday 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide career and college entrance information and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselors; coordinate day-to-day operations and schedule activities, programs, and speakers
· Contact, schedule and arrange guest speakers from the local business community, colleges and military services and act as liaison between colleges, neighboring high school consortia, college partnerships and military
· Prepare career education and instructional materials for use by instructor and student; assist high school and middle school students in locating and using college/career information as needed for research, assignment and post-high school planning
· Plan, organize, develop and implement career events and publications; prepare letters, flyers, mailers and other materials to publicize Career & College Readiness Center services, resources and speaker programs; maintain career and Dunn PAL web pages, websites, social media sites
· Maintain current lists and bulletins concerning scholarships and other financial aid available; provide information concerning specialized scholarships and assistance in completing application forms
· Assist counseling department in preparing materials and implementation regarding Career Cruising
· Provide information concerning scholastic aptitude and achievement tests; assist students with applications and scheduling; distribute test results as appropriate
· Provide job employment service to students, create system of advertising jobs, provide students with job finding skills; i.e. job applications, resumes and interviewing techniques
· Attend meetings, conferences and seminar regarding career trends, college entrance and financial aid to stay current including willingness to become certified in MS Office skills training
· Train, supervise, monitor, and evaluate student office assistants
· May proctor and assist with all state assessments for the high school (SBA, EOC, off-grade-level)
· Organize and participate in after-hours events including: senior information, financial aid, college planning, senior awards, curriculum night, parent conferences, and 8th grade parent night events
· Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements of confidentiality regarding student and personnel information
· Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality and have consistent, reliable attendance
· Comply with all Dunn PAL, also Local Schools policies and procedures
· Assist in the planning and preparation of CCR staff and Afterschool Program staff, Attend Schools CTE Training
· Prepare CCR correspondence, bulletins, budgets, and required district, state, and federal forms efficiently and accurately
· Assist CTE teachers and NC Works advisors with conference and travel paperwork
· Maintain and update NC Works calendars and CCR calendar and appointments
· Maintain CCR Department inventory and process purchase orders and receive in accordance with district policies and procedures
· Assist with other related clerical duties such as photocopying, scanning, faxing, and filing
· Coordinate CTE college credit (Tech Prep) registration
· Input data for JCPC Grant (and other grants), the monthly CCR enrollment report, and the end-of-year Annual Student Enrollment Review also required minimum enrollment for each.
· Assist Afterschool Coordinator annually to set Career & College Readiness Center goals, evaluate program outcomes and analyze its effectiveness; adjust program as needed to meet student needs and changing job and college markets
· Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Knowledge of NCALLIES Software System, Traxsolutions software system, or similar student data systems preferred and the ability to data mine
· Knowledge of career and occupational resources, trends, opportunities, and Career Cruising program
· Knowledge of college entrance requirements and procedures, financial aid requirements, and training necessary for future careers
· Knowledge of school operation and ability to relate effectively to students, staff, and parents
· Skills in the areas of organization, attention to detail, filing, problem solving, and commitment to follow through on tasks
· Skills that exemplify high level of computer proficiency and application of technology (including data mining, creating data reports from multiple sources, proficient in MS Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint) with willingness to become MOS Certified

LICENSING/CREDENTIAL AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
· Completion of high school or equivalent and technical training for clerical and statistical tasks, degree preferred
· Bilingual fluency in reading, writing, and speaking another major language desired, Spanish preferred
· All district employees shall undergo a criminal background check, including a fingerprint check by both State Patrol and FBI
· All district employees shall sign an Authorization and Release of Information form relating to prior school district employment

Essential Functions of College and Career Readiness Coordinator:
· Coordinates and oversees implementation of graduation requirements.
· Collaborates with the Harnett County Schools CTE, Harnett County NC Works and CCCC CTE to establish college and career readiness outcome measure of success 6-12.
· Collects, analyzes, and reports transition and college readiness assessment data (NC Works – EXPLORE, PLAN, And ACT) and remediation.
· Serves as a liaison to higher education partners.
· Assists in developing and revising policies, rules, and guidelines related to graduation requirements.
· Provides leadership for scholarship and financial aid programs.
· Coordinates professional development for teachers and staff.
· Monitors and evaluates district graduation and completion rates.
· Actively supports the middle and high schools career readiness programs, internships, and services.
· Actively seeks and manages multiple funding resources and grants to support college and career readiness.
· Develops dual enrollment opportunities for students.
· Creates, develops, and maintains a college readiness website for the district.
· Works with faculty, staff, students, and parents to develop and implement formal and informal events and activities that enhance a college and career school culture.
· Promotes strong relationships with students, families, and caregivers that engage them in their child’s education and school events.
· Establishes and maintains a student-centered “success center” and collaborates with faculty to determine tutoring, learning assistance, interventions, and/or academic coaching needs.
· Engages in continuous learning through professional reflection and active collaboration with colleagues.
· Tracks, assesses, and reports data used to assess student achievement and retention; implements continuous improvement programs and processes as appropriate.
· Provides consistent emphasis on and support for post-secondary and career exploration and preparation through student events and activities.
· Represents the district on selected committees and college readiness events.
· Facilitates the student retention teams at middle and high schools.
· Provide academic advising services to undecided students.
· Assists students in selecting course work appropriate to their school levels and career/academic goals.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions of Support Services:
· Provide effective leadership in the organization, administration, supervision and evaluation of all college and career readiness initiatives.
· Communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with building administrators, departments, staff, parents, JCPC Board, Juvenile Court, Juvenile Meetings, Advisory Councils, and the PAL Board.
· Keep well informed of current educational research, best practices, trends, materials and processes in the area of college and career readiness.
· Provide leadership in planning, organizing and implementing professional development for staff.
· Develop, implement and carry out a systemic process for working with state and local agencies.
· Prepare all needed documentation and report data.
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the PAL Director, Afterschool Coordinator and/or other staff/organizations at the direction of the PAL Director.
