Habitat for Humanity ReStore ELGIN: ReStore is a home improvement center that accepts donated goods from retailers, manufacturers, contractors and homeowners. Building supplies are then sold, at great prices, to the general public. The store's operations generate funds to support the Northern Fox Valley affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and its local building program.
MISSION: Generate revenue, meet budget and maintain profitability objectives in support of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley ReStore operations through the procurement, management, and marketing of products. Through its efforts, ReStore facilitates recycling, minimizes landfill waste, provides low-cost home improvement materials to the public, and increases Habitat's visibility in the local community.
POSITION SUMMARY
Provide exceptional customer service. Ensures accuracy of cash handling. Help inform the public about ReStore, Habitat for Humanity, volunteerism and special promotions or events. YOU are the best marketing tool we have!
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet customers coming in the doors to the ReStore.
- Knowledgeable about ReStore operations, prices etc. Able to answer customers questions or connects customer with appropriate person.
- Operates cash register and credit card device for customers’ purchases accurately.
- Answer incoming phone calls, takes messages and direct calls to proper individual
- Responsible for accurate money transactions. Accountable for missing cash or other financial assets. Closes out register and fills out forms accurately.
- Ensures customer’s purchasing items with warranty and/or items being held for pick up are given accurate information and paperwork.
- Communicates incoming donations or purchase of items to be moved off the sales floor with appropriate and assigned staff, volunteers or community service.
- If more than one at cash-wrap station, help “stage” customers’ purchases to expedite check out.
- Keeps area neat and clean. Vacuums rugs, sweeps, ensure area is not cluttered. Makes sure all forms, register tape and other necessary items are stocked. Makes copies of necessary forms.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of simple home improvement materials
- Pass background check and drug test
- Spanish speaking a plus
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Great people skills
- Ability to relate to and communicate well with customers
- Basic knowledge of what items are appropriate for resale at the ReStore
- Basic knowledge of what items are for sale at ReStore
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
