SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Camden Special Services District is seeking a creative and collaborative Communications and Outreach Coordinator to enhance community engagement and event management in Downtown Camden.
Position Summary
The Camden Special Services District (CSSD) is a nonprofit organization that acts as the management corporation for the Camden Business Improvement District. CSSD provides cleaning and greening services as well as a host of programming that supports an active, thriving Downtown Camden.
CSSD is seeking a collaborative and creative individual to drive the development and implementation of the organization’s communications, to manage events and placemaking projects, and to support general organizational efforts. The Coordinator will oversee CSSD’s hospitality efforts and events calendar which includes the DTC Arts Crawl and the Lunchtime Concert series. The ideal candidate will be a consummate problem solver and quick learner who possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can represent CSSD in a professional manner when interfacing with the public. They should have a passion for community development and helping small businesses grow.
Job Type: Full Time, Monday – Friday and occasional nights and weekends
Reports To: Executive Director, Camden Special Services District
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
- Establish and nurture excellent professional relationships with property owners, businesses, neighborhood communities, the public sector
- Attend and report on community meetings
- Be CSSD’s lead for event development and management
- Manage a small team of hospitality ambassadors in their daily activities and at special events hosted by CSSD and our community partners
- Develop communications calendar and arrange for visual asset collection
- Work closely with CSSD’s outside PR and/or communications consultants
- Post 2-3 times a week on CSSD’s social media
- Manage the maintenance and update of the CSSD website
- Curate weekly e-newsletters and work with subcontractors on deployment
- Stay abreast of best practices and new trends in this field
- Assist in writing grants & developing partnerships to drive resources to the organization
- Prepare reports, graphs, maps, flyers, event materials, etc.
- Ensure public-facing print collateral us up to date and distributed
- Ensure communication contracts are adhered to and that their invoices are processed in a timely manner
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field (visual art/design, marketing, communications, or other applicable emphasis).
- Three (3) to five (5) years professional experience
- Knowledge of marketing and communication technologies including content management systems, email marketing, virtual and in-person event platforms (Zoom, Go-To Webinar, Eventbrite, etc.)
- Fluency in Canva at minimum, Adobe CS preferred
- Strong written, verbal, digital and web communication skills
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and community building
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision
- Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends. CSSD staff support major events
- Self-motivated, empathetic, creative, forward thinker open to creating new strategies that provide a sense of place and a lively downtown experience
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Activities include working in an office setting and out in the community and at all project locations. Night and weekend attendance at meetings and events is expected. The ability to lift and/or move event supplies and café street furnishings is required.
