Bachelor's degree in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to 6 months of related work experience in internal communications, media, or marketing; advanced experience with WordPress, content creation, and social media platforms.

Assist in internal and external communications; develop and execute the Paper to Practice series; maintain university communications; support online training design and content; create unique marketing materials; represent MiVAN at external events; and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
MSU seeks a full-time Communication Coordinator for its Research Consortium on Gender-Based Violence and the Michigan Victim Advocacy Network, focusing on communications, training development, and marketing within a supportive role in social justice advocacy.
Position Summary
MSU’s Research Consortium on Gender-Based Violence (RCGV) and the Michigan Victim Advocacy Network (MiVAN) seek a shared Communication Coordinator. Under the supervision of RCGV’s Co-Directors and MIVAN’s Co-Directors, the Communication Coordinator will assist in the development and execution of internal and external communications specifically focusing on social media, websites, and further development of the Paper to Practice series.
Under the supervision of the RCGV’s Co-Directors, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
(RCGV, 30%) Development of the Paper to Practice series which will include: Translating gender-based violence related research projects into actionable and digestible products that will include composing, reviewing, editing, producing, and duplicating audio, visual, animated, video, and/or printed training materials; Composing, reviewing, editing, producing, and duplicating audio, visual, animated, video, and/or printed training materials; Designing the process of the development of the paper to practice communication series (including video communications, infographics, and supplement documentation) and incorporation into the RCGV website; Coordinating and supervising undergraduate students supporting the work of the Paper to Practice series
(RCGV, 20%) Development and maintenance of regular university-wide communications with RCGV members via listserv, newsletter, and website
(MiVAN, 20%): Training Development; Assist the MiVAN team to develop online training design, content development, and ongoing management; Review and/or editing of layouts, drafts, and information to check for content, readability, and style
(MiVAN, 20%): Marketing Materials; Curate unique marketing campaigns for a state-wide, Michigan-based audience of crime victim advocates; Assist with web page design, maintenance, and content management
(MiVAN, 5%): Representing MiVAN at functions, professional organizations, industry organizations, community and related external events; and administrative duties
(5%): Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced experience with WordPress websites, Learning Management Systems, and integration of the two
- Advanced Experience in content creation and design
- Expertise in multiple social media platforms
- Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video)
- Advanced experience with photo, animation, audio, and video editing software, Adobe Creative Suite preferred
- Familiarity with online marketing strategies and marketing channels
- Ability to grasp future trends in digital technologies and act proactively
- Excellent listening and time management skills with the capability to address difficult situations
- Patience and professionalism
- Experience in email marketing software
- Background in social justice, gender-based violence, and victim advocacy work is preferred
