SHORT DESCRIPTION
Seeking a Community Manager to enhance engagement among diverse communities in Wisconsin by overseeing volunteers, creating content, and ensuring accurate dissemination of civic-related information.
Position Overview
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Building
• Identify and foster relationships within local, regional, and topical groups aligned with our content and mission.
• Engage with community members—especially via local Facebook groups—by sharing relevant insights from our programming and inviting discussion around local news and civic issues.
• Encourage audiences to voice the concerns and topics most pressing in their communities, relaying that feedback to Civic Media’s shows and internal teams.
2. Volunteer Coordination
• Recruit, onboard, and support a small network of volunteer ambassadors who share our content and mission in their local areas.
• Provide resources, best practices, and consistent messaging to volunteers, ensuring they focus on valuable information-sharing rather than promotion.
3. Content & Social Media Collaboration
• Partner with the content team to plan and publish posts that highlight key information from our shows—focusing on community needs.
• Independently produce short-form articles, social posts, or multimedia content that addresses trending issues raised by local audiences.
4. Event Participation & Travel
• Represent Civic Media at select events (digital or in-person) to connect with community members, listen to local concerns, and reinforce our civic engagement focus.
• Travel as needed to various parts of Wisconsin to meet with volunteers, attend local gatherings, and foster community ties.
• Document and share event takeaways, success stories, and opportunities for follow-up.
Chief Duties
- Develop in local, regional and topical Facebook Groups that align with our content or coverage areas
- Improve the sharing and interaction around our content.
- Help relay questions and information from those communities to internal stakeholders (producers, reporters, content creators and leadership)
- Develop a content marketing plan and key objectives in the coming year.
- Improve organizational coordination and communication, including adding relevant information to our content calendar on a daily basis.
- Create engaging and shareable content for websites, blogs, Facebook pages, newsletters and/or viral content (text, images, video or audio).
- Monitor social media campaigns and analyze web traffic from the online community using key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Participate in social events, corporate events and workshops.
Qualifications
• Education & Experience: Associate’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field; Bachelor’s preferred. Proven experience in social media management, community engagement, or volunteer oversight.
• Community Organizing: Demonstrated history of organizing around community or working-class issues.
• Communication Skills: Excellent writing, listening, and interpersonal abilities. Talent for fostering honest, meaningful interactions that help inform our content.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with social media tools, content management systems, and basic analytics platforms. Experience with Sprout Social and Notion is preferred but not required.
• Passion for Civic Engagement: Deep interest in local journalism, democracy, and connecting with Wisconsin communities around relevant local issues.
