LOCATION
Hybrid remote/office-based position with up to 5% international travel as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or equivalent skills, and six years of experience in related work. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of content management systems, and working knowledge of Adobe software.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the development and execution of Holt's communications strategy to enhance donor engagement, recruit families, and manage both digital and print communications for the organization.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Helps develop and implement Holt’s integrated communications plan, including the growth and development of Holt’s strategic messaging standards and production of the organization’s communications materials. Plans, schedules and manages Holt’s internal and external integrated communications in collaboration with the Communications Director, Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer, Holt leadership and individual departments. Oversees the creation of innovative and inspiring copy and plans the content and publishing schedule for Holt’s multi-platform communication mediums, which include but are not limited to the Holt e-news, website, blog, social media, brochures, mass communications, promotional materials and beyond as needed.
Grows Holt’s philanthropic and family recruitment operations by:
- Working cross functionally to build donor engagement and recruit new constituents through effective communications.
- Helping to implement the communications strategy and develop effective messaging for Holt sponsorship, adoption, philanthropic and other acquisition campaigns alongside the Communications Director
- Safeguarding Holt’s strategic messaging integrity across the organization
- Researching and implementing best practices for effective multi-channel sponsor and donor communications across integrated platforms
- Originating insight-driven content strategies, concepts and strategic messaging that align with Holt’s philanthropic & communications objectives
- Advising program coordinators on best practices for effective client communications, with the goal of improving customer service and client satisfaction
Responsible for oversight of Holt’s strategic communications positioning by:
- Understanding and monitoring the overarching strategic vision for the Holt brand through careful execution of the messaging, tone and approach of all communications efforts
- Identifying trends in nonprofit messaging and articulating and implementing strategic changes to Holt’s core communications to reflect Holt’s evolving strengths, positioning, and future vision, as well as proven strategies to improve constituent engagement.
- Providing reports on the overall success and impact of Holt’s current messaging and communications strategy
- Ensuring consistency and integration across all messaging platforms
- Obtaining appropriate publication releases and permissions
- Handling questions and corresponding/communicating with writers and readers.
Develops and manages effective content by:
- Managing a team of content creators and collaborating closely with Holt’s program/department leaders and communications director to ensure consistency in written and aesthetic messaging, including use of imagery, video and web applications.
- Researching, planning and recommending effective, inspiring stories and content for a wide range of communications, including impact stories, donor materials, newsletters, social media, video scripts, etc.
- Soliciting stories and photos from adoptive families, donors and overseas staff
- Planning, producing and editing Holt promotional content and collaborating with other team members to develop associated art, video or other design elements.
- Analyzing data from Holt’s blog, website and constituent responses to identify trends in Holt’s constituency and develop content that addresses their needs and interests.
- Following up with writers and contributors to meet deadlines and keep Holt’s production schedule on track.
- Travel to Holt overseas locations and/or events (and/or assemble an appropriate content team to travel) as needed to gather communications materials for future use.
Maintains effective content messaging and editorial quality by:
- Developing, researching and writing vivid and inspiring content
- Communicating with contributing writers regarding desired writing style, length and content
- Following up with writers through revisions.
- Copyediting to obtain clear, concise, effective final text.
- Verifying factual information as needed
- Researching and compiling needed information for narrative content, annual reports, donor communications and other communication pieces
- Tracking revisions to ensure corrected copy is used in production processes.
- Obtaining appropriate approvals for content at appropriate points in the editorial process.
- Developing and maintaining a well-coordinated overall schedule of materials.
- Supervising and assigning projects and stories to writers and designers as needed.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness of Holt International philanthropy and communications by:
- Maintaining thorough knowledge of every aspect of Holt’s work, including overseas programs, internal policies, donor acquisition/retention programs, adoption frameworks and processes, and relevant adoption-related legislation, trends and existing content as to effectively connect anyone in the organization with the information they need.
- Demonstrating proficiency to apply conceptual strategy, brainstorm facilitation and day-to-day directing of a project to completion.
- Exhibiting working knowledge of content management systems, content marketing programs and digital analytics.
- Writing effective copy and editing other people’s copy to match Holt’s brand.
