Creative Director / Design Lead for digital creative agency in California
Description Our client is a digital creative agency based in California and you will join a talented remote team consisting of 140 people spread out all over the Americas. You will work with globally celebrated brands creating digital campaigns and websites used by millions of people.
This role can be located anywhere in the US or Canada, as long as you’re within 3 hours of the Pacific Time Zone. However, you’ll need to be working on Pacific Time to align with your clients on the West Coast.
About the role
As a Creative Director / Design Lead, you’ll be ultimately responsible for creating beautiful digital experiences from concept to final execution. You’ll oversee a team of designers and copywriters to create innovative web experiences that people love to use. You will also play a vital role in building and maintaining client relationships. This position requires a mix of hands-on work and management skills.
The work ranges from large-scale websites to smaller microsites and single pages. The agency also does plenty of CRM email, social, and display ad campaigns.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide day-to-day creative leadership to a team of senior designers
Lead your team to create smart, groundbreaking interactive email designs that meet client objectives * Ensure your team’s output is highly polished, working within existing brand style guides and, where possible, taking a unique visual approach * Oversee a large volume of projects with varying levels of complexity, including tasks related to versioning, localization, and interactivity * Present creative work to clients and be adaptable to their feedback * Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure projects stay on schedule and budget * Work with external developers to ensure the final build reflects your team’s design vision * Define and enforce design system guidelines and best practices for your projects
Lead initiatives that push for innovation in email design * Mentor team members, fostering a collaborative and creative environment
Qualifications
- A polished design portfolio that contains stunning creative for consumer-facing brands. Experience working with tech brands is a plus.
- BA/BS degree in a design-related discipline (e.g., interaction design, graphic design, visual communications, product design)
- At least 10 years of experience in a related field. Must have experience at either an interactive design agency or an in-house creative department for a well-respected brand.
- Demonstrated experience leading a creative team
- Ability to think strategically and align creative direction with overall business and marketing goals
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, and development
- High comfort level with creating presentation decks, presenting work to clients, and working with clients to address their feedback
- Proficient with industry-standard design tools and practices (e.g. Figma, etc.)
- Deep experience with responsive design
- Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines
- Willingness to accept constructive creative feedback from your executive creative directors, peers, and clients, and to come up with smart solutions that address that feedback
