SHORT DESCRIPTION

This position supports the Development team in grant writing and fundraising efforts to help Dream.Org close prison doors and create opportunities through sustainable funding streams.

Reports to: Deputy Director of Grants

Location: Remote within the US only

Salary Range: $69,000 - $79,000 (Depending on Experience and Location; this salary is based on California, New York and Washington DC only)

Purpose

The Development Department makes it possible for Dream.Org to achieve its overall goals by building diverse and sustainable funding streams for all its programs through a mix of foundation, corporate, government, and individual donor support. The Development Assistant/Associate will mainly support grant writing and foundation relationship building, though will also provide a high level of administrative support for fundraising work across the Development team. Tasks will include scheduling, meeting prep and note taking, drafting content, and helping ensure efficient deadline management. While reporting to the Deputy Director of Grants, the role will be an important team resource to utilize towards executing on the wide variety of requests the Development department receives and will support all Development team members.


The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, with good proofreading skills and ability to follow directions. Organizational skills should include the ability to multitask and triage requests in a fast-changing environment. Duties & Responsibilities

Grant Management Support (50%)

  • New grant prospect identification through Foundation Center/research.
  • Create funder profiles and help draft intro emails
  • Create prep notes for upcoming calls
  • Filling out wire transfer forms/verifying banking information
  • Gathering attachments for proposal submissions (ie 990s, board lists, staff bios)
  • Uploading text and attachments into grant portals
  • Initial outlines/drafts of grant or grant reports
  • Proofread grants and reports

General Department Support (30%)

  • Helping schedule internal and external meetings
  • Participating in meetings and taking notes as requested
  • Effective project management and tracking of next steps
  • Use Asana to support the tracking and completion of department tasks and ensure no dropped balls or missed deadlines
  • Conduct research on potential major donors using wealth screening tool (currently DonorSearch)
  • Support corporate engagement and giving strategies as requested
  • Supporting fundraising campaigns including the end of year campaign as needed
  • Proofread funding emails and collateral as needed
  • Support Engagement Department in online fundraising campaigns: help proof emails, create donate page language, and help with project management across Engagement/Development departments
  • Manage donor acknowledgement process and annual tax receipts
  • Check and update corporate, employee and all external giving platforms

Database Support and Pipeline Management (20%)

  • Monitoring reports on Salesforce to highlight records that are outstanding or need attention
  • Tracking follow-up and engagement with contacts through Salesforce records to ensure outreach is being conducted

  • Desire to work in a and demonstrated ability to be successful in a fully remote environment
  • Desire to pursue a career in nonprofit fundraising or operations/administration
  • Experience preparing application packages for submission and working with funder portals such as Fluxx (for Associate)
  • Familiarity with or demonstrated ability to learn customer relationship management (CRM) systems and project management software. Dream.Org uses Salesforce and Asana.
  • Experience with Canva a plus.

After a 6 month waiting period, employees can contribute to our retirement plan. Currently, Dream.Org offers up to a 5% match. We also offer a flexible spending, pre-tax program for medical expenses, dependent care expenses, transit expenses and parking expenses. All full-time Dream.Org employees accrue 4 weeks of vacation time off and 12 days of sick time off over the first year of employment. Part-time employees accrue time off on a prorated basis. In addition to 10 paid holidays, Dream.Org also provides paid time off from December 24th through January 1st each year.
