The Development Coordinator at Support The Enlisted Project (STEP) will support fundraising efforts and donor relations, contributing to the organization's mission to improve financial wellness for military and veteran families.

Organization Description

Support The Enlisted Project (STEP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to improve financial wellness and combat food insecurity, homelessness, mental health conditions, suicide, and other crises through counseling, education, and financial support for enlisted service members, Veterans, and their families.

Position Details

  • Title: Development Coordinator
  • Reports to: Development Manager
  • Hours: Full-time, non-exempt, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week)
  • Work Environment: In-person at headquarters in San Diego
  • Location: 9915 Businesspark Ave. Suite A, San Diego, CA 92131

Position Overview

The Development Coordinator provides critical administrative and fundraising support to the development department, working directly with the Development Manager and VP of Philanthropy. This role focuses on individual donor stewardship and solicitation, event coordination, and project management, supporting STEP’s mission to serve military and Veteran families. Regular interaction with donors is a key aspect of the role.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fundraising

  • Donor Stewardship & Solicitation
  • Assist with corporate sponsorship deliverables.
  • Coordinate annual donor mailings (e.g., Spring, Holiday campaigns).
  • Support the Board Development Committee with donor outreach.
  • Plan and execute campaigns and events, including:
  • Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)
  • Sharing The Joy (STJ)
  • Swing For Our Heroes Golf Tournament
  • Stand & Salute, Open House, and other donor initiatives.

Wealth Management Research

  • Serve as the in-house expert for the donor database.
  • Prepare and analyze accurate donor reports.
  • Stay current with database capabilities.

Special Events

  • Assist in planning and executing donor-focused special events.

2. Administrative Support

  • Draft and deliver documentation related to donor communications and project updates.
  • Assist with outreach and scheduling efforts for the VP of Philanthropy.
  • Assist in answering phone calls and greeting walk in guests

  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned projects and tasks.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and thoroughness in all work.
  • Customer Service: Ability to interact effectively and professionally with donors and volunteers.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication abilities, capable of conveying ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Familiarity with Military Community: Knowledge of military culture, Veterans, or military spouse experiences is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
