The Digital Marketing Specialist contributes to the colleges financial success by ensuring the effectiveness and productivity of communications across all digital platforms. With a primary focus on the colleges website and social media channels, the Specialist is a digital storyteller who helps meet tactical objectives while engaging key audiences and elevating the Nichols brand.

Job Duties

Digital Content Creation

  • In collaboration with marketing communications team members, create, package and publish compelling and engaging content for the colleges website and digital platforms, including feature stories, news updates, event promotions, feature stories, blogs and other institutional highlights.
  • Work closely with the Writer/Editor and team members to ensure cohesive, strategic messaging and storytelling across digital and print channels; participate actively in weekly editorial planning meetings.
  • Manage video channels and serve as liaison with Information Technology (IT) and external live streaming partners on key events such as Commencement.
  • Provide strategic recommendations for improving the colleges online presence.

Social Media

  • In collaboration with Writer/Editor and team members, develop and execute comprehensive social media strategies to elevate the colleges digital presence, engage key audiences, and achieve stated outreach goals.
  • Plan and publish content across digital platforms and ensure that content meets high editorial and visual standards, employs best practices, and supports broader marketing goals and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a social media content calendar, including monthly updates and planned collabs.
  • Manage audience engagement and feedback loops and optimize social profiles to enhance visibility.
  • Analyze social media performance metrics and KPIs; provide regular reports on engagement, reach, and audience growth, with actionable insights and recommendations to enhance strategy.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends to integrate innovative tactics that support growth and strengthen engagement.
  • Manage Digital and Social Media Marketing graduate assistant and Bison Influencers student team.
  • Relaunch and manage the Social Media User Group (SMUG) to elevate Nichols social media presence and coordinate content/hashtag strategies across the institution.

Website Content Creation and Effectiveness

  • Collaborate with team members to create content for the Nichols website (www.nichols.edu), ensuring content is up-to-date, engaging and aligned with branding guidelines; manage institutional priority web pages and external partners and vendors.
  • Collaborate with internal campus teams to create web pages and content that support institutional priorities.
  • Provide user training for website editors distributed across the institution; establish processes to balance ease of self-service with marketing and communications standards for brand, quality and website effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Writer/Editor and the Admissions team to develop and implement digital recruitment campaigns, web content, and social media strategies that drive enrollment.
  • In partnership with IT, monitor website performance using analytics tools; recommend and implement improvements to optimize content, functionality, and user engagement; ensure the website is mobile-friendly, SEO-optimized, and compliant with accessibility standards.
  • Provide campaign support for digital marketing efforts, including but not limited to the management of landing pages, UTMs and tracking pixels, campaign assets, and ROI tracking; provide business analysis and recommendations based on Google Analytics, Semrush reporting, and other data sources.
  • Participate as a key contributing member of the web analytics team and the 2025 website refresh planning team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferably in communications, English, journalism, marketing, media or a related field; or technical certification and relevant professional experience in digital marketing
  • Superior writing, editing, and storytelling skills; a strong understanding of how to write content for digital platforms
  • High proficiency in social media management and analytics tools, and image and video design tools; fluency with analysis and administration of digital and social media platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of WordPress, Semrush, Google Analytics, AI and MS Office
  • Understanding of branding, product marketing,g and communication principles
  • Strong portfolio of published work, including graphic design, videography, and photography
  • Demonstrated creativity and originality
  • Effective time management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Adaptability and flexibility, including evening/weekend availability
  • Commitment to representing the marketing team with professionalism, competency, and collaboration
