Digital & Social Media Specialist
Kent's Marketing & Communications Office seeks a creative storyteller and strategic communicator interested in helping to document, elevate, and promote all aspects of life at Kent School through multi-platform content development.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Digital & Social Media Specialist will craft compelling multimedia content that showcases our students' achievements, campus life, and educational Mission and values while engaging current and prospective students, parents, alumni, and the broader school community through innovative and authentic social and digital storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging written commentary, alongside photos and videos, to effectively tell stories that enhance the brand’s presence across digital and social media platforms.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, year-long social media and digital content strategy using timelines, templates, and scheduling across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Vimeo, and website)
- Create and produce on-brand written copy, graphics, photography, and video content that effectively communicates Kent School's Mission and engages diverse audiences on social media and the School website.
- Collaborate with the School Photographer & Videographer to document school life through high-quality photography and video, capturing academic classes, athletics, student and residential experiences, campus events, and grounds.
- Monitor and analyze engagement metrics, providing regular performance reports with strategic recommendations for content optimization, including insights on top-performing posts, impressions, engagement rates, and audience growth.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (i.e., Admissions, Alumni & Development, Athletics) to develop compelling visual and written content that builds community, enhances brand awareness, and drives strategic initiatives.
- Maintain organized digital asset libraries for efficient content management and access.
- Actively engage online communities by responding to comments, messages, and interactions across social media platforms.
- Stay current with digital media trends and innovations, continuously refining content strategy and creation approaches.
- Develop and manage digital advertising campaigns across platforms (e.g., Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Instagram, LinkedIn) to support admissions, fundraising, and community engagement goals as needed.
- Maintain awareness of ongoing school initiatives and identify and leverage social media opportunities to showcase the School’s programs, Mission, and values in collaboration with faculty, staff, coaches, and students.
- Support the Marketing & Communications team with digital communications, including email campaigns, e-newsletters, digital event materials, and strategic reports.
- Create and maintain social media processes and guidelines to assure all school social media accounts are meeting the standards of the School.
- Act as a gatekeeper for all school-associated social media accounts, implementing processes and policies for the launch, management, and ongoing operation of these channels. Provide oversight and guidance to account moderators and other stakeholders.
- Mentor students in media-related school jobs, providing professional guidance and feedback to help them ideate and produce dynamic digital and social media content, showcasing school events, achievements, and student stories, while ensuring content aligns with the school's mission and enhances its online presence.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
This is a full-time, 12-month position that will be in-person/on-campus, 40 hours per week. This candidate will be regularly asked to cover weekend and evening school activities and events that operate outside of regular business hours to authentically capture the full Kent School boarding experience. Flexible hours will be provided to accommodate these demands.
Job & Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience managing social media accounts and digital content, preferably in education, nonprofit, or brand marketing environments.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful social media strategies across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube), preferably for a brand.
- Strong writing and editing experience, with the ability to tailor content for digital audiences.
- Experience with content creation/storytelling using photography, video, and graphic design.
- Familiarity with photography and videography for social media platforms.
- Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Social Pilot, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer).
- Experience with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, platform-specific insights, and reporting).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) or similar design tools.
- Video editing experience with the capability to use video editing software (Final Cut/Adobe Premium Pro) is preferred.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms and website content management systems. Experience with Finalsite and Veracross is a plus.
- Knowledge of SEO principles and digital advertising platforms (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, etc.).
- Highly creative, nimble, and motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Possesses an innovative mindset with a keen understanding of current social media trends and emerging platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly disposition, an approachable attitude, and an eagerness to build relationships with diverse audiences, particularly students.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other non-traditional hours to cover events and campus life.
- Passion for education and working in a vibrant, student-centered community.
