The Digital Communications Specialist will enhance and support communication channels, develop engaging content, and analyze performance metrics to elevate brand awareness within the firearms and action sports communities.
Job Description
The Digital Communications Specialist is a member of the in-house digital marketing team. The position will support and enhance current communications channels and create and develop new ones. The scope of work will include using the voice that reflects Magpul’s roots in firearms, shooting sports, mixed with an action sports and general pop culture sensibility.
Working with the digital and creative marketing teams, the Digital Communications Specialist will plan, coordinate, create, and publish marketing and editorial content to be used in company webpages, email, and blogs. They will also participate in planning digital media campaigns, content strategies, email calendars, and play a key role in growing our online presence where it improves brand awareness. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, tracking the progress of our marketing campaigns, analyzing KPIs, and providing feedback and recommendations to marketing team leadership.
Must be a strong strategist who understands “the why” behind the different forms of content, as well as a good researcher who will actively look for ways to enhance our materials and implement effective techniques for engaging consumers. The position must be capable of collaborating and working closely with a team, and able to work independently to stay on top of their own tasks to meet deadlines.
This role requires active collaboration with our SEO, marketing, creative and editorial teams to ensure our content is optimized for all digital media channels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and craft quality content (text and visual elements) that project the brand voice in various online and offline channels such as company websites, email, blogs, videos, and social media.
- Manage email and SMS lists and ensure emails and texts follow industry policies and best practices to maintain list health and meet compliance. Analyze campaign performance and use data to tailor content to segments of the list to meet KPIs.
- Identify and execute strategies to grow the email and SMS lists.
- Track consumer and content analytics and generate reports. Continuously analyze published content to determine whether it meets the established KPIs. Gather metrics, analyze performance data, and create reports on email and content marketing campaigns. Must be able to speak to the data and make recommendations for future campaigns, with a drive to improve data fidelity, reporting and analysis.
- Research consumer trends to ensure that new and existing content is relevant and appealing. Understand the target audience(s), what and how they search and, through competitive research and audience analysis, develop effective, engaging content that will bring them to our website(s).
- Stay up to date on email and content marketing best practices inside and outside the firearms industry. Make suggestions for new tactics and how to deploy materials within a restricted market.
- Research and define target audiences. Create detailed and data-driven content strategies to effectively reach the desired target audience and marketing goals.
- Maintain SEO best practices and make improvements in all written content.
- Work with the social media team to coordinate cross-channel campaigns. Contribute to social media optimization through appropriate keyword use, activating CTAs, and audience research.
- Manage the content creation process for communications materials, from ideation through production, by coordinating with team members to ensure the timely delivery of content elements.
- Utilize project management and organizational tools to maintain an up-to-date email and content calendar.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of content before publishing, and that content is published on time and remains consistent across all company channels, including email, SMS, blogs, video, and social media.
- Establish relationships and manage vendors. Coordinate with vendors and IT when adopting new or upgrading existing technology or platforms that support the role. Monitor connections and help maintain consistent health of applications or platforms.
- Travel up to 15%

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field.
- A minimum of three years of experience in email marketing, content creation, communications, or similar.
- A portfolio of published work.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional drive to produce quality work and always working to improve their skills, knowledge, and performance.
- Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good knowledge of content and layout design, and experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Strong understanding of content practices such as SEO and SMO.
- Outstanding organizational and time-managements skills. Able to work independently to prioritize tasks and stay focused.
- Strong attention to detail. Able to create and follow processes that ensure quality and accuracy of materials.
