Job Title: Digital Executive Producer (News) - WFTV


Position Overview

The Digital Executive Producer at WFTV in Orlando, Florida will manage our digital news content and coverage and oversee our digital operation across all digital channels and platforms. The EP will be responsible for day-to-day decision-making, and will be an expert at story selection, headline writing, social media, SEO, AP Style writing and editing, and breaking news for a digital audience. You should be fluent in at least one CMS and have experience with audience signaling tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • This is a writing job. You must excel at breaking news and AP style writing and editing for a digital audience.
  • Work closely with other key newsroom managers to ensure a multiplatform approach with all our content.
  • Executes live-streaming strategy to encourage viewership on mobile and on other digital platforms.
  • Consistently survey our websites, apps, and social platforms to make sure the freshest content including updated headlines and video are included.
  • Create digital coverage plans for big news events. Consider how content is organized/displayed, design interactive elements, order graphics, etc. to enhance coverage.
  • Ensure all distribution points (push alerts, social media, newsletters, etc.) have correct posting frequency and topic selection.
  • Work with talent and/or marketing to develop unique video and social content.
  • Work closely with corporate Content teams to leverage engagement tactics such as SEO best practices, interactive content, social media best practices, etc.
  • Understand and leverage key analytics to evaluate and drive performance.
  • When necessary, train other newsroom staff on digital platforms and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments including marketing and sales to optimize digital opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of newsroom experience required
  • Must be a quick leading innovator who can lead a team in a changing media environment
  • Must understand and be able to execute on evolving digital platforms
  • Must be a good teacher and leader
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Must be well read on current affairs and have a wide range of working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects
  • Must be able to understand research and execute on the findings
  • Ability to work well with others and deal with employee issues appropriately


Physical Demands:

  • A combination of physical work (standing, walking, lifting and carrying items such as laptop computers, pulling file drawers)
  • Document review and computer use, including ability to manipulate fingers to operate computer keyboard and mouse
  • Expected to work under deadline constraints and meet precise deadlines (including self-imposed deadlines)
  • Routine interruptions and unforeseen assignments are to be expected
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.A. Degree in Journalism, Communications, or other field of study preferred
  • Large market experience preferred
