The University of Virginia seeks a Digital Strategist to lead online marketing efforts, enhance brand visibility, and grow engagement across over 90 public-facing websites within the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for an inaugural Digital Strategist to lead the crafting and execution of online marketing campaigns with the overall goal of growing the Arts & Sciences (A&S) brand and its over 90 public-facing websites. The newly created Marketing team within A&S has a vision to build a function that provides stronger storytelling, engagement, and connection both internally at UVA and externally to broader audiences and stakeholders. The Digital Strategist role, which sits within the Content & Creative Services sub team, is a key piece in working across the Brand Marketing and External/Internal Communications colleagues to bring the digital assets to life.
The ideal candidate for this role should have a deep comprehension of digital marketing avenues and data analysis. In addition, they must have exceptional communication skills and project management capabilities.
Successful candidates should be resourceful, knowledgeable, analytical, data-driven, and customer-focused.
The candidate will be expected to perform the following job duties:
Create digital marketing strategies that span various platforms including social media, SEO, email marketing and paid advertising.
Develop and execute a social media content strategy and engagement plan tailored to each platform using analytics to optimize reach
Work cross-functionally with Brand Marketing and Executive/Internal Communications teams to create digital content that drives growth and enhances brand visibility
Analyze and optimize UX of organizational and departmental websites for A&S Faculty and Staff
Monitor and analyze the performance of digital assets, using data to optimize results and achieve set targets
Work with A&S Faculty & Staff to develop digital campaigns in support of Dean’s Office priorities
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in digital marketing
Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and vendors to maximize digital marketing opportunities
Create detailed reports on campaign performance and present insights and recommendations to stakeholders
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field required
- At least five years of experience required
Qualifications:
- Substantial experience in digital marketing, with a strong understanding of various marketing channels and strategies
- Experience with Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or other related analytics tools
- Familiarity with web design and development
- Experience with social media management tools like Sprout Social
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and techniques
- Strong project management and organizational skills - experience and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Creative thinker and problem solver, with a data-driven mindset
- Experience with graphic design software and visual content creation preferred
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal preferred
- Proficiency in marketing automation tools, such as Marketing Cloud preferred
- Experience in higher education marketing or working within a university setting preferred

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, dependent upon needs of the department and incumbent's performance.
