About Sandy Hook Promise
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings, and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.
SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

About the Role
The Director of Adult Programs will focus on developing and implementing strategies that ensure the success of our adult programs across the country. This work will include managing grant partnerships, meeting program requirements, building relationships with states, districts, and schools, and assisting the Associate Vice President of Youth and Adult Programs manage day-to-day operations.
The Director will lead efforts to create and deliver programs that promote safer and more informed schools, homes, and communities for both adults and youth. This role will report to the Associate Vice President of Youth and Adult Programs and will regularly collaborate with the leadership team and other departments in the organization.
Location
We are a U.S.-based organization with most of our staff working remotely. This position requires up to 30% travel for meetings and activities related to Adult Programs, including frequent overnight stays. The selected candidate must be comfortable working while traveling.
Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Serve as the in-house expert on adult programs, staying updated on materials and acting as the primary point of contact for internal and external needs, while representing these on multiple Director-level committees across departments to elevate and advocate for Adult Programs activities and interests.
- Lead the planning and execution of adult partnerships aligned with the Youth and Adult Programs strategy, overseeing outreach, recruitment, webinars, communications, and key meetings, while developing and managing programming, outcomes, and budgets to meet funder deliverables.
- Oversee and manage Adult Programs nationwide to ensure the sustainability of Sandy Hook Promise initiatives, tracking and reporting key metrics such as survey completion, program participation, and impact stories, while collaborating with cross-functional managers.
- Identify and resolve potential challenges and opportunities that could impact sustainability goals or program delivery, facilitating early strategic adjustments to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
- Establish feedback mechanisms to analyze engagement and course effectiveness, providing exceptional support to partners by addressing issues/concerns and implementing data-driven improvements.
- Collaborate with the AVP of Youth and Adult Programs and fellow directors on program materials, tools, and outreach strategy, while researching trends in instructional design and adult learning to ensure content reflects best practices and supports national activities.
- Support and guide the use of technology and communications to drive monthly actions, including Call-to-Action (CTA) weeks and ongoing Adult Programs activities.
- Participate in the development of REDI practices so that they are woven throughout Adult Programs, including leading conversations focused on participant identity (race, gender, sexuality, geography, etc.). Ensure content complies with accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with Marketing and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent strategy/messaging and to create innovative content that supports the mission.
- Manage project timelines, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure on-time completion. Oversee processes for updating adult programs.
- Collaborate with teammates across the organization and take on other duties as required by organizational needs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Nonprofit Management or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in regional or national program implementation with supervisory experience.

- Ability to supervise teams managing employees handling multiple projects across states with varying timelines and deliverables.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to create clear work plans and budgets.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing equity and cultural sustainability practices, with a strong track record of leading discussions on participant identity (race, gender, sexuality, geography, etc.).
- Strong relationship-building skills, with experience working with corporations, universities, and family programs.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise updates and maintain regular communication with partners and team members, particularly via email and virtual channels.
- Proficient in using technology and tracking tools to manage progress and relationships. Expertise in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint) and familiarity with Salesforce.
- Strong leadership and management experience, with the ability to delegate, inspire, offer constructive feedback, and demonstrate empathy. Excellent time management, prioritization, and reliability.

The salary range for this position is $93,000-$103,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
