About this Marketing Role

The Digital Marketing Office, led by the Head of Digital Marketing and reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, drives Genentech’s digital marketing transformation across 5 key focus areas. One of these focus areas is Content Excellence. The candidate in this role will report to the Content Excellence lead and support the content creation engine of the future, as Genentech’s 1Marketing organization undergoes an unprecedented, GenAI-enabled transformation of its content creation processes. This role will ensure cross-portfolio creative development achieves unparalleled quality and efficiencies through standards, governance, and engagement models across marketing, agencies of record, and Genentech’s promotional review committees. The candidate will partner closely with XO (Experience Operations) to align on a shared vision, roadmap, and implementation plan.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Establish the organization’s digital content standards, including clear direction to support the ongoing cross-organizational shift to personalization and the deployment of GenAI for content development.

  • Drive content creation and optimization adoption activities in light of expanded marketer authorship responsibilities.

  • Implement and manage a new Creative Production Vendor to deliver core creative and operational support to 1Marketing, ensuring quality, speed, and exceptional experience while managing to budget.

  • Play a core role in AOR governance, working alongside Procurement and Marketing Operations in establishing and maintaining effective processes for managing Agency of Record (AOR) partnerships to drive alignment with 1Marketing content strategy

  • Act as the 1Marketing PRC engagement lead, ensuring seamless connectivity and coordination between content creation and PRC processes

  • Identify opportunities to improve content creation workflows, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and output quality.

  • Establish baseline and ongoing reporting mechanisms to evaluate the performance of digital content, using data to drive continuous improvement and optimization

  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding content deliverables.

  • Collaborate with and seek input from brand marketing to surface opportunities to improve content creation and efficiency.

  • Share industry and internal case studies, bring forward best practices and develop 1Marketing Digital Academy inputs to drive the creation of more impactful content across channels

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to enhance the effectiveness of digital content

  • Coaches and advises marketers on subject matter expertise to grow expertise across teams

  • Lead initiatives that have broader organizational impact across the 1Marketing Function, impacting multiple therapeutic areas, and advancing progress towards our CMG outcomes

  • Play a leadership role with agencies and the Promotional Review Committee (PRC), including Legal and Regulatory, to ensure development, approval, and pull-through of compliant and effective promotional tactics

  • Lead fit for purpose and flexibly deployed work teams across the CMG network based on their areas of expertise.

  • Work autonomously to make decisions and act, in close alignment with 1Marketing strategy and priorities.

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 8 years minimum work experience, with 6 years working in a marketing role or, an Advanced Degree with 6 years of working experience with 5 years in a marketing role may be considered.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • MBA or other related graduate level degree preferred

  • Marketing experience in relevant industries

  • Experience in the managed care, Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry/pharmaceutical or biotech customer engagement

  • Experience in creating marketing strategies, plans and tactics that have strengthened market positioning and driven high-value customer and business outcomes

  • Prior experience in managing relationships with external vendors and partners required, direct agency of record experience preferred

  • Extensive experience in content creation workflows across digital channels required

  • Experience facilitating cross-functional engagement, relationship building and collaboration

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for digital content in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Strong organizational, communication skills with proven attention to detail

  • Proven track record of executing large-scale, highly strategic initiatives

  • Strong understanding of digital marketing trends, technologies, and best practices

Location

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and offers a hybrid schedule working in the office 3 days per week.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location in California is $187,100 - $347,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
