QUALIFICATIONS

The Director for the Tulsa Albert Schweitzer Fellowship will lead the program's operations, mentor students in health initiatives, manage budgets, and represent the Fellowship nationally to promote health equity and leadership development.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Advise, supervise and mentor Fellows as they develop and lead their community-based health projects, and in their leadership development;
- Organize and lead Fellowship activities including annual orientation, mid-year retreat, monthly meetings, and annual celebration event; including development and implementation of curriculum to address Fellowship’s core competencies;
- Develop and implement curriculum to address the Fellowship’s core competencies;
- Cultivate and foster relationships with current, past and future community site mentors;
- Review and respond to monthly and final reports from Fellows, provide relevant feedback, support and mentorship;
- Direct and manage the recruitment and competitive selection of new Fellows, including mentorship and support of applicants as they identify community-based project opportunities;
- Maintain communication with Fellows for Life and identify opportunities for ongoing engagement and leadership development, including mentorship of new Fellows;
- Remain up-to-date on local and national initiatives and trends in public health, health equity, leadership development, philanthropy, community engagement and adult learning.
Finance and Administration
- Establish annual budget and fundraising goals, and longer-term development plan;
- Direct and monitor financial expenditures;
- Communicate relevant information about finances to supervisor and advisory board;
- Process stipend requests for Fellows;
- Maintain contact information for Fellows and Fellows for life.
Fundraising and Development
- Lead ASF-Tulsa’s advisory board;
- Identify strategies to meet annual fundraising goals, in concert with Oxley College Development Director;
- Prepare and submit grant proposals and reports;
- Represent Fellowship at relevant meetings;
- Assure grant compliance, reporting, and subsequent continued cultivation; cultivate new funders with support.
National Engagement
- Represent Tulsa chapter with the national collaborative of Schweitzer Fellowship sites, which includes monthly meetings and participation in national committees and/or working groups (these include curriculum, evaluation, programming, strategy, public outreach)
- Attend annual national Schweitzer Directors’ retreat and national gatherings
Public Relations
- Identify opportunities to tell the story of Tulsa Schweitzer Fellows. This could include social media presence, pitches to local media, engaging Fellows/FFL to write for local publications; attend to, and pursue, public relations opportunities in an on-going fashion. Work with TU’s Marketing and Communications Department for support.
- Graduate degree is required in a related discipline.
- Minimum four years of work experience with a nonprofit organization, community-facing academic setting, or similar organization.
- Critical skills include student mentorship, program management and community engagement.
- Commitment to health equity and leadership development.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse group of constituents representing a variety of backgrounds – public, private, non-profit, and academic organizations.
- The candidate must be flexible and able to accommodate variability in the work schedule.
- Experience in student development and/or adult learning;
- Experience in community engagement;
- Excellent communications skills, both written and oral;
- Exceptional levels of organization, with strong project/process planning experience and skills; proven ability to work independently and productively on a range of projects simultaneously;
- Experience with computer systems including Microsoft office applications, which may include Outlook Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access;
- Basic understanding of non-profit finance, fundraising and budgeting;
- Meeting and event planning experience;
- High level of energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission.
