  • Salary Range: $150,000 – $175,000 annually

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

KKCS is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Business Development to drive strategic growth across the Transportation, Aviation, Utilities, and Education sectors. This position will be reporting to the Chief of Operations and Strategy. The successful candidate will spearhead business development efforts, lead the marketing/pursuit team, and support executive operational and technical leadership priorities. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can identify opportunities, effectively pre-position KKCS with agencies and teaming partners for strategic pursuits, foster relationships, and ensure KKCS’s continued success in competitive markets. The successful candidate must be flexible to travel up to 25% and participate in conferences, including some evenings and Sundays.


Key Responsibilities:
As the Director of Business Development, you will:
  • Develop the annual marketing plan and the strategies, tactics and resources necessary to achieve company growth goals and drive profitability.
  • Develop the annual marketing budget for review and approval of senior leadership.
  • Provide leadership, direction and management of the market research function such as but not limited to clients, upcoming projects, potential teaming partners, etc.
  • Furnish marketing advice, counsel and general staff support to all departments within the organization.
  • Business Development
    • Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies to expand KKCS’s footprint in the Transportation, Aviation, Utilities, and Education sectors.
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through research, networking, and strategic partnerships.
    • Lead key pursuits of the organization including strategy, teaming and services to be provided.
    • Lead proposal development efforts, including RFP/RFQ responses, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry partners, and stakeholders to support long-term growth.
    • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market developments to inform business strategies.
    • Demonstrate strong understanding of conflict of interest and if needed lead discussions/efforts to resolve any conflict-of-interest situations.
    • Demonstrate basic understanding of engineering/construction process.
    • Demonstrate basic understanding of project lifecycle (planning, design, construction, close-out, etc.)
    • Demonstrate basic understanding of how projects get funded; Sources of funding, and how that can impact the project. (i.e. Grants, matching funds, sales tax measures, etc.)
    • Lead interview preparation for the team by providing direction, guidance and coaching for team.
  • Marketing Leadership
    • Manage, support and provide direction to Marketing Manager.
    • Provide strategic leadership to the marketing team, ensuring alignment with business development goals and company priorities.
    • Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns, including social media, digital content, and branding initiatives.
    • Ensure consistent and effective messaging that reflects KKCS’s values and market positioning.
    • Track and analyze marketing performance metrics to optimize campaigns and initiatives.
    • Assist, review and provide guidance in any technical writing required for proposals and/or any marketing materials.
  • Executive Support:
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to align business development and marketing efforts with operational and technical priorities.
    • Support the Senior Vice President in crafting and implementing strategic plans.
    • Contribute to internal and external presentations, reports, and communications.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred)
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience within the AEC industry and a demonstrated track record of accomplishments in business development, marketing, pursuit management, and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet critical internal and external deadlines (i.e.- proposal and procurement deadlines, marketing campaigns/projects, etc.)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Suites
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, and other related software.
