SHORT DESCRIPTION
The director of external events and services will oversee the sales and coordination of external events at Meredith College, focusing on maximizing rental revenue and enhancing client relationships.

The director of external events and services is responsible for directing external sales for facilities rentals and overseeing coordination and support for external events. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the director of external events and services is externally focused, actively marketing Meredith College facilities and securing a robust stream of space rental business.
- Develop strategies and promotions to achieve annual facilities rental revenue goals established in consultation with senior leadership, including researching, developing, and recommending guidelines, procedures, and annual fee schedules for using Meredith facilities.
- Works closely with the Executive Leadership Team to improve the marketability and profitability of campus events and facilities. Researches, identifies, and capitalizes on business opportunities, including advertising agencies, bridal shows, film companies, regional athletic events, conferences, and other opportunities to increase and maximize external event and facility revenues.
- Supervises the event marketing specialist and event mover positions.
- Works with the Director of Meredith Events to schedule spaces and staff external events.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive sales strategy to maximize the use of campus event spaces, including a Chapel, auditoriums, performing arts spaces, meeting rooms, educational spaces, podcasting/broadcasting studio, athletic facilities, outdoor amphitheater, and residential living areas.
- Meets with prospective and current clients, conducting tours of campus facilities, addressing questions, building and maintaining strong relationships, and providing solutions to client concerns and issues. Provides excellent customer service and seeks to improve customer satisfaction and create customer loyalty.
- Prepares proposals for providing services and renting campus property, negotiates contracts within established pricing parameters, and explores additional revenue streams such as sponsorships or package deals with local businesses and partners.
- Provides annual and quarterly revenue forecasts and projections.
- Advises off-campus clients on planning, conceptualizing, and producing events at Meredith.
- Ensure on-site customer service support for events, including staffing events and hiring, training, and managing a part-time event staffing pool.
- Collaborates with colleagues in the marketing division to optimize Meredith’s branding, public relations, and revenue opportunities related to hosting external events and creating communications with potential clients.
- Collaborates with the enrollment division to identify and maximize recruitment opportunities associated with hosting external events and groups.
- Coordinates support for external events with facilities, media services, Meredith events, campus police, dining/catering services, and other offices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sales/Marketing, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in event sales, hospitality, or a related field.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with event management software.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for events.
