Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club is a private member-owned Club, recognized as a Distinguished Club and designated as a Platinum Club of America. Located in the Town of Orchid, Florida, just north of Vero Beach, this community is beautifully situated on 600 acres from the ocean to the river. Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club offers the best of life in Vero Beach-three spectacular dining venues, over a mile of private beach, tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness center, spa, and an outstanding Arnold Palmer designed golf course.


Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club has a year-round position for the Director of Wellness. The incoming director will lead Orchid's fitness, wellness, and spa program with excellent communication skills and outstanding member service, while conducting themselves in a professional & friendly manner.

Fitness at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club is a way of life-and the Tennis & Fitness Center makes that easy. With over 11,000 square feet of space devoted to getting and staying fit, there's something here for everyone. State-of-the-art machines help build lean muscle or cardio fitness. More than 35 group exercise classes are offered as well as a Pilates studio, yoga and spinning room and private areas for stretching and cool-down exercises.


Our licensed and knowledgeable personal trainers can tailor programs designed to guide and motivate every personal fitness quest. Our on-site physical therapists can develop a personalized treatment plan to speed up recovery.


After a day on the links or a tough match on the courts, or just for a treat, Orchid Island members can indulge in an extensive selection of massage therapy or spa treatments at the Spa at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club. Situated by the pool at the Beach Club, our luxurious spa offers a generous menu of services such as rejuvenating facials, exfoliating body treatments, deep tissue massages, and manicures and pedicures by our experienced professional staff.

Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club Director of Wellness Position Overview

The Director of Wellness manages, develops, and oversees The Club's Wellness Program, which includes the fitness and spa operations, while promoting an exceptional club member experience and providing creative services and programs for all members and guests. Supervises all contract professionals and staff and works collaboratively with the Director of Racquets. Additionally, the Director of Wellness will demonstrate the following:


  • Seeks new and exciting programming and opportunities to grow fitness, wellness, and spa program.
  • Ensures that member satisfaction of the Wellness, Fitness, & Spa operation is maintained at 4.5 to 5.0 on the annual member survey.
  • Provides exceptional member experiences for the Wellness Program.
  • Develops and manages Wellness Programs to include classes, events, activities, etc. Reviews and recommends new training trends to General Manager. Tracks utilization of fitness center and provides reports.
  • Provides orientation program for all new members and provides invitations to members who do not participate in Wellness Program. Markets Wellness programs to members and guests.
  • Guides members through initial and progressive training sessions in the areas of flexibility, aerobic conditioning, strength training, and overall wellness.
  • Researches, learns, and understands the Wellness needs of the members and strives to fulfill those wellness needs.
  • Oversees Point of Sale (POS) operations to ensure accurate member billing and sales and activity reporting.
  • Implements club policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Coordinates member communication including all upcoming activities.
  • Advises on the maintenance, placement, and purchasing of all fitness, wellness, and spa equipment.
  • Establishes an annual budget for the Wellness Department. After approval, monitors and takes corrective action as necessary to ensure that the budget's sales and cost goals are attained.
  • Ensures all club members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to all their Fitness, Spa, and Wellness needs.
  • Manages and resolves any member concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Hires and oversees all Wellness staff and associates, including independent contractors.
  • Ensures staff receive effective orientation and professional development training opportunities.
  • Develops and administers an outreach program for infrequent fitness program users in effort to increase participation in fitness training and programs.
  • Schedules staff, sets performance standards, administers annual performance evaluations, and completes applicable payroll/accounting/HR related documents for processing.
  • Oversees maintenance of fitness equipment, monitors industry standards, and purchases new equipment as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary work environment for all members, guests, and staff.
  • Carries out all administrative duties, including monthly articles for member newsletter, timely written communications to promote upcoming events, and regularly scheduled meetings with staff and associates to discuss operations.
  • Collaborates with Pro Shop Merchandise Manager by establishing or maintaining distributor/vendor relationships with high quality products, controlling inventory, and ordering and maintaining stock, distinguishing price based on market averages and percent of profit and remaining up to date with product knowledge and benefits.
  • Establishes and maintains membership with fitness association for the networking, best practices, continuous improvement, and ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Meets with colleagues, staff, and key personnel to maintain communication.


Education and/or Experience

The ideal candidate should be an engaging, welcoming, and energetic professional with the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in physical education, health and wellness, sports management, sports marketing, recreational management, business, or closely related field, preferred.
  • Five (5) years' experience managing a fitness and wellness facility along with the supervision of employees and/or contract professionals. Private club experience as spa and/or health and fitness manager/director preferred.
  • Must be certified with a national organization affiliated with fitness, health, or spa operations.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate staff.
  • Must possess and maintain Personal Trainer's License and CPR/First Aid Certifications.
