The Night Ministry is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to drive storytelling and content strategy, enhance public engagement, and support organizational growth in serving the unhoused and those experiencing poverty.
The Night Ministry is a Chicago based organization whose mission is to provide human connection, housing support, and health care to members of our community who are unhoused or experiencing poverty. We've successfully provided these lifesaving services for 45 plus years, everyday providing a lifeline to our most vulnerable neighbors. We serve everyone without concern for race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing & Communications oversees marketing and content initiatives, drives the organization's storytelling and content strategy for all digital, print, and mission marketing, tailored to a wide array of audiences. This individual is a member of the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), is responsible for managing a marketing coordinator, driving strategic and tactical initiatives, and ensuring alignment between content, brand, and organization objectives.
Must have a strong background in content marketing, strategic marketing plans, management, and experience working within the non-profit sector. The Director works most closely with the Vice President of Advancement and the President & CEO to refine and execute The Night Ministry's overarching marketing and communications strategy while handling the day-to-day tactical details needed to bring campaigns to life and keep the robust organization moving forward.
On an annual basis, the Director is responsible for creating a communication plan for The Night Ministry in furtherance of its strategic plan and for executing key elements of the plan while simultaneously serving as the creative architect for external communications. The Director is responsible for capturing and communicating all aspects.
Role Qualifications:
This role is central to The Night Ministry's mission of providing human connection, housing, and healthcare to our neighbors facing homelessness or experiencing poverty. Mission-driven work will include:
Program Marketing:
Oversees the development of marketing materials across multiple platforms, ensuring they reflect The Night Ministry's brand, mission, and values. Ensures our messaging resonates with the public, increases engagement, and drives action.
Fundraising Campaigns:
Creates and implements marketing strategies to not only attract potential donors, but also volunteers and others in a position to raise awareness and advocate to end homelessness. This includes leveraging digital channels and creative content to raise awareness and connect with individuals ready to be engaged. Enhances marketing efforts to educate the public to expand our network of advocates.
Supporter Stewardship and Prospecting:
Supporters and donors are what enable The Night Ministry programs to continue saving lives; they are also what enable continued growth of our mission. By developing and managing strategies and tactics to cultivate and steward current and prospective new supporters, re-inspire lapsed supporters, and retain and grow current supporters, the Director will magnify lifesaving efforts of the agency.
Event Marketing:
Ensure The Night Ministry's special events have collateral and promotion required for success. The 50th Anniversary will occur in 2026, which will require enhanced strategy and efforts to celebrate the milestone in print, digital, and videography.
Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement:
Volunteers are integral to The Night Ministry's success, and The Director may be asked to design and execute marketing strategies to recruit, engage, develop, and retain volunteers. These efforts will help communicate the impact of volunteer work, inspiring individuals to get involved and support our mission.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Passion for humanity, Chicago, and a commitment to ending homelessness.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
- 7-10 years of marketing experience, preferably in corporate, agency, or non-profit settings.
- Proven team management and mentorship experience.
- Skilled in managing community, vendor, media, and donor relationships.
- Experience leading in matrixed environments and collaborating across functional areas.
- Compelling writer with a focus on inclusive storytelling to inspire action.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across print, digital, video, and more.
- Expertise in project management, prioritization, and resource allocation.
- In-depth knowledge of marketing communications, social media, and digital marketing.
- Proficient in digital and email marketing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Mailchimp, Salesforce).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects.
- Availability for occasional evening hours to support outreach initiatives.
- Ability to assist with light lifting and event support as needed.
