QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field preferred; minimum of 5 years of management experience in marketing, communications, or public relations, strong verbal communication skills, experience in digital marketing and content creation, and a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Director of Marketing and Communications will oversee marketing strategies and communications for Girl Scouts of South Carolina, enhancing visibility and promoting the council's mission to empower girls through various programs.
Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands council is the largest organization serving girls in South Carolina. The council has a current membership of close to 6,000 girls, more than 3,000 volunteers and a staff of 42 (plus an additional 30+ seasonally). Girl Scouting is the largest organization for girls in the world. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Through activities in S.T.E.M., Entrepreneurship, the Outdoors and Life Skills, Girl Scouting provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem.
We have a key leadership position available at the Cathy Novinger Girl Scout Leadership Center, Columbia, SC for a Director of Marketing and Communications. This position is responsible for developing and implementing innovative and integrated marketing strategies designed to increase awareness for the Girl Scout brand and program. This position represents and promotes the council by increasing its visibility and reputation and advancing its mission, vision, and goals.
The Director of Marketing and Communications has overall responsibility for communications, messaging, marketing, and branding activity for the council. Oversees the day-to-day and strategic management of media and public relations, website design and content, marketing, and advertising as well as social media and crisis communication. The Director of Marketing and Communications is the advocacy liaison for the council and is the point of contact for state and federal legislators.
Objectives/Responsibilities:
- Leads the Marketing and Communication Team of 1.5 staff to successfully develop, implement, and evaluate the plans that result in more volunteers delivering a high-quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience and a growing number and diversity of girls served.
- Ensure strategies are consistent with the philosophy of Girl Scouting as a membership organization and ensure the integrity of all communication systems support the growth and retention of adult membership and girl membership.
- Work cross-functionally with membership, volunteerism, program, and fundraising departments to position Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands as the charity of choice throughout the 22-county region.
- Leads the development and implementation of the council’s brand vision, strategy, and public relations campaigns to attract members and volunteers, motivate alumni and donors, recruit high-quality staff, and ensure broad and appropriate dissemination of important council stories, events, and facts in a rapidly changing competitive marketplace.
- Actively promote Girl Scouting in the community through presentation, networking, and collaborative efforts.
- Brand Advocate/Champion for organization.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field with advanced education preferred. Will consider relevant years in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of successful management experience, preferably with a nonprofit or membership-based agency in the functional areas of marketing, communications, advertising, and PR.
- Strong verbal and cognitive communication skills.
- Must have experience in digital marketing, content creation, storytelling, and data-driven campaign management.
- Upon hire, you must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
- Must have personal transportation and the ability to drive; possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance meeting council insurance company’s requirement for coverage, and submit to a background search.
