Job Summary and Qualifications

The Director of Operations for Transplant and Cell Therapy provides direction and support for the ongoing development of South Austin Medical Center’s TCT and Hematologic Malignancy services. The director will execute a sound, clinical business strategy promoting service, relationships, and volume; responsible for meeting internal requirements as set forth by their direct supervisor, and transplant steering committee as well as meeting external requirements regarding transplant services as defined by FACT, Medicare and Medicaid. Individual will work closely with physicians to ensure high-quality services are provided by the program.

You will work effectively with the program Medical Director and Clinical Director of Oncology, ensuring strong lines of communication and follow-up, and jointly addressing and resolving issues proactively as they are identified.

  • You will achieve and maintain high standards of patient and referring physician satisfaction regarding the clinical program and respond accordingly when complaints arise.
  • You will develop with the Clinical Director of Oncology adequate QA/PI plans for each respective area and hold individuals accountable for ensuring that plans, goals, and targets are achieved; serve as content expert on policies and procedures where appropriate.
  • You will develop and oversee an adequate recruitment, training, education, and competency program for staff.
  • You will increase transplant revenue and profitability by growing clinic and waitlist volumes and spin-off activity.
  • You will identify and implement strategic and growth objectives. Recommend improvement of hospital facilities in assigned areas, including construction and renovation of structures and purchase of new equipment and technologies. Ensures that the strategies, priorities, and operations are aligned and complementary.
  • You will measure performance including:
  • Increased productivity, market share, quality improvement, cost controls, and optimum utilization of facilities. Collaborates with Finance and Managed Care, as appropriate, to review program financial reports, contractual arrangements, and reimbursement opportunities. Advises Senior Leader where executive action is necessary to accomplish these goals.
  • You will develop forums for best practice development and knowledge sharing and ensure staff have the necessary tools and information to succeed. Oversees development and implementation of Policies & Procedures for all aspects of the program. Facilitates certification of personnel and provides for tracking of documentation for required continuing education and training. Oversees the accreditation process with the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).

Serves as a key participant in groups focused on TCT services such as:

  • TCT Executive Committee
  • TCT Quality Improvement
  • TCT Tracking
  • Hematological Oncology
  • Cancer Committee
  • Research Department
  • CTL Operations
  • Cost Analysis and Billing

  • You will ensure full, ongoing compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies, with emphasis on FACT accreditation.
  • You will collaborate with Nursing leaders to collect and analyze data related to inpatient and outpatient program performance and develop action plans for improvement where needed. This includes clinic schedules, ALOS, costs per admission, etc.
  • You will ensure data systems are in place and used accurately by staff to collect key data needed to assess the business from initial referral through survivorship care.
  • You will respond to Health Plan inquiries to update insurance RFIs
  • You will meet regularly with physicians and address concerns.
  • You will develop effective strategic growth & marketing plans including measures of effectiveness. Continually evaluates existing services and identifies new program opportunities.
  • You will develop relationships with referring physician practices and identify opportunities for supporting blood cancer patients throughout the community.
  • You will collaborate with the Sarah Cannon Transplant & Cellular Therapy Network and the other programs associated with the Network.
  • You will hold all team members accountable to a high standard of professional behavior
