Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in fundraising; expert knowledge of fundraising ethics and practices, strong writing skills, and excellent interpersonal communication abilities.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
Seeking a Director of Philanthropy to strengthen corporate and foundation relations, secure funding for university initiatives, and build collaborative partnerships at North Carolina State University.
The mission of University Development within the Division of University Advancement at NC State is to raise philanthropic support for university goals and priorities that benefit our students, faculty, this campus and ultimately, the state of North Carolina. The department includes the offices of Annual Giving, Central Major Gifts, Corporate and Foundation Relations and Gift Planning.
The office of Corporate & Foundation Relations is responsible for building and directing programs to strengthen existing relationships and establish long-term partnerships with corporations and foundations that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals and priorities of the University and its entities.
- Through strategic identification, qualification, and cultivation, manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate partners and implement cultivation/solicitation strategies for each partner to create and grow a pipeline of major gifts ($50,000 and above).
- Create mutually beneficial relationships that align with the priorities of the University, are multi-faceted, and can provide annual revenues of six figures or more.
- Prepare proposals and related materials as needed to secure revenue, with a priority on gift based funding. Develop funding proposals for foundations, corporations, corporate foundations, and organizations, working with appropriate faculty and other academic personnel.
- Consistently meet individual contact, proposal and fundraising goals including strategy development and newly discovered opportunities; document all development activities in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain strong understanding of the basic research efforts and develop relationships with academic and research leaders. Use this information to match corporate and foundation interests with these research areas in support of university priorities.
- Manage key programs including but not limited to Corporate Connects and Thought Leaders Series
- Manage special projects as assigned such as communications, special research projects, key initiatives and university fundraising priorities, etc.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned. Attend a variety of events throughout the year. Regular travel (local and out of state) and occasional night and weekend work is required for this position.

- Expert knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of successful fundraising, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation relations
- Proven relationship builder with the ability to form trusting relationships and work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, volunteers, alumni and colleagues
- Strong writer with grant writing experience
- High attention to detail and processes
- Excellent listening, communication, interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic team environment

- Experience in higher education fundraising
- Previous corporate and foundation fundraising experience
- Familiarity with NC State University
- A valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required within 60 days of start date. Must be maintained as a condition of employment.
