Intercultural Family Services, (IFS), is partnering with Bob Madonna, (Diversified Services LLC) on a search for a Director – Development & Community Outreach to join a thriving, community-centric, nonprofit in Philadelphia, PA.

Intercultural Family Services believes that every Philadelphian deserves the opportunity to thrive. For more than 40 years, we have supported in inherent strength children, strong families, and communities by increasing access to quality clinical behavioral health, community-based, and prevention programs for children and families. Since its founding, Intercultural has strategically expanded its focus and footprint and operates from offices in South, Northeast, and West Philadelphia where the organization is building a new 36,000-square-foot headquarters and services center.

Intercultural Family Services works to achieve the promise of a truly equitable Philadelphia Region through an array of services:

Intensive Home and School Based Services

o Intercultural’s Family Based Mental Health Services and Intensive Behavioral Health Services programs offer intensive, evidenced-based, and team-delivered support for youth and families as appropriate to their needs and located in their homes and community.

Behavioral Health Centers/Outpatient Services

o The agency’s two licensed behavioral health clinics, located in West and South Philadelphia, provide therapeutic services to individuals and families to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues that negatively impact their health, safety, and stability. Services are offered both in person and via remote modalities.

Truancy Prevention Services

o Truancy Prevention Service is the newest and now largest program at Intercultural. This program supports children in need before they have the 10 absences that put them at risk for involvement by the Regional Truancy Court.

Community Well-Being & Prevention Programs

o Intercultural’s Family Empowerment Services program helps sustain strong families by providing the support necessary to prevent crises and promote health. Intercultural’s Peer2You Gun Violence Prevention program works with youth ages 12-18 to mentor and empower resilience while addressing root causes of gun violence. Intercultural’s Enhancing Parenting Skills Program provides 12-week classes to caregivers navigating children at multiple stages of development using the Nurturing Parenting Curriculum and the course is available in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.

Housing Counseling Services

o Intercultural’s Housing Counseling Program has been successful in encouraging and assisting participants to become - and importantly – remain homeowners, to enhance their home management skills, to sustain their family in a stable housing.

POSITION SUMMARY

To support its vision, Intercultural Family Services is seeking to fill its first Director of Development and Community Outreach (“Director”) position. The ideal Director will have achieved success developing throughout their career a combination of mature and steady leadership skills. They will become a key member of IFS’s senior leadership team and support its strategic plan through a dynamic and well-planned, multi-faceted Major Gifts, Annual Giving, Planned Giving, and Foundation and Marketing strategy. The Director will be charismatic, inspiring, and collaborative in working with internal and external partners including staff, Board members, volunteers, and donors.

They will play a significant role in the success of IFS’s services, overseeing a set of integrated strategies to attract private investment and to enable the growth of the organization and the community it serves. The Director will have the opportunity to evaluate current strategies, consolidate strengths, develop, and implement a plan to expand both grassroots and high-level engagement and revenues, and meet or exceed the annual fundraising goal.

Personal knowledge of individual donors and donors with capacity is preferred as is grantee knowledge and demonstrated success in human services or education. Additionally, sophisticated understanding of how to design a donor program to generate revenue and build a major gifts pipeline and an outstanding major gift fundraising record are essential.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

● Communicates IFS’s mission and culture to all key stakeholders including staff, Board members, volunteers, donors, and partners.

● Provides outstanding leadership, management, task delegation, facilitation, and networking skills, including the ability to make prompt and effective decisions and to think strategically.

● Represents IFS in select high-level partnerships, speaking engagements and other externally facing activities.

● Represents Marketing and Development efforts as part of IFS’s strategic planning process.

Donor Outreach/Cultivation/Stewardship:

● Works with the CEO and COO to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, and individual giving.

● Supports and partners with the President and Board members on all major fundraising initiatives.

● Has primary responsibility for the development and execution of all grant requests.

● Oversees research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position IFS ahead of major funding changes or trends

● Monitors all donor information; provides and presents statistical analysis to Board and senior leaders.

● Develops and implements a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors.

● Oversees identification and securing of in-kind donations of goods and services for special events and office needs.

● Develops relations with appropriate community leaders, businesses, and government to expand the reputation of the organization and to seek or expand new funding sources.

● Establishes IFS’s Legacy Planned Giving program.

● Establishes, supports, and oversees various volunteer Development Committees.

● Responsible for the cost-effectiveness and financial aspects of the department.

● Strong knowledge of the philanthropic sector, as well as the various laws and regulations affecting them. Business acumen and strategic planning.

Marketing.

● Ensures the organization’s visibility in the community.

● Advises and supports volunteer-based special event committees concerning print, publicity, and media contacts.

● Evaluate and ensure that spending of marketing dollars is maximized and consistent with goals.

● Cultivates press relationships. Represents IFS in the community and communicates IFS’s successes and needs.

● Create marketing and promotional materials and events.

● Oversees IFS’s social media strategy including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

● Ensures that all communications are of the highest quality standards, reflect a positive image and address the issues and interests of specific audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES

● Experience working with program teams and constructing, articulating, directing, and implementing strategic marketing and development activities in a non-profit organization.

● Ability to think strategically and critically and prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Advanced analytical judgment.

● Outcome-focused with the ability to effectively track and evaluate impact of efforts and to successfully lead projects to completion, according to schedule.

● Dynamic interpersonal skills, including the capacity to relate on a highly personal level to a very wide variety of prospects, donors, and volunteers.

● A successful track record in managing multiple projects from initiation to completion in an organization of at least similar size to IFS.

● Direct operational experience in the areas of comprehensive development campaigns, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, donor relations/stewardship, corporate and foundation relations, and development services.

● Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.

● Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.

● Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

● Training volunteers especially for fundraising events.

● Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.

● A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside IFS, one who takes initiative.

REQUIREMENTS

● Demonstrated successful experience in raising funds for a nonprofit with grants, foundations, and general fundraising methods. Minimum of seven years’ experience.

● Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

● Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

● Certified Fundraising Executive preferred

Location

Intercultural Family Services operates in Philadelphia, PA. The administrative offices are located at 4225 Chestnut Street Philadelphia PA 19104.

Compensation

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $100,000 to $130,000 based on experience.
