Summary

Since its founding in 1972, the leadership and administration at Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School has established and continues to nurture the foundation for creating a profound education for our students, providing a strong sense of community , and instilling the values of the Jewish people.We are looking for a Director of Marketing and and Communications to lead our marketing team in driving brand awareness and engagement. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to delegate tasks effectively while managing a small team.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate professional who will work with us to expand our brand to both our internal and external communities. The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading Heschel’s strategic communications and marketing initiatives that foster the school’s vision and mission. This position is responsible for developing and implementing the school’s overall communications and marketing plans, including strategic planning, website/social media management, digital and print advertisements, email program/mass communication, and key branding and messaging objectives. This position is a key member of the team and reports to the Head of School.

Strong, warm, culturally savvy graduate-level writing, exceptional attention to detail, extremely mission oriented, and able to blend in different voices/styles.

● High-level proficiency with modern office technology (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office including Excel, web browsers, etc.)

● Familiarity with CRM systems and Student Information Systems (experience with Blackbaud Education Management and Raiser’s Edge is a plus)

● Experience using mass-email programs with dynamic content (we use Campaign Monitor)

● Experience with web development in a CSM or other visual website builder (we use Finalsite)

● Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro)

● Familiarity with digital advertising tools (experience with Google Ads and Meta Ads is a plus) and analytics tools (experience with Google Analytics 4 is a plus)

● Basic understanding of HTML and CSS is a plus

● Experience building forms, ideally with conditional logic and payments (we use Jotform)

● Photography and videography skills

Responsibilities:

Model good leadership and provide positive customer service between and among the school, parents, and community members, ensuring their support for the school’s mission and strategic plan.

Work closely and effectively with Board members, the Head of School, administrative staff, faculty, and Parent Organization within the full range of activities.

Attend and present reports (both written and oral) at Staff and Board meetings as needed and/or requested.

Design and implement a comprehensive marketing plan to include goals and objectives, strategies, programs, and activities.

Manage the content, design, and evaluation of the school’s website, social media platforms, and other marketing materials, such as our Annual Report, Strategic Plan, and more.

Research and follow up on marketing opportunities.

Photograph, record, and edit footage of school events on and off-campus in partnership with the marketing team and video consultant.

Write and manage all school-wide and administrative communications including the weekly newsletter, grade-level communications, and emergency notifications.

Collaborate with the admission office to design, implement, and evaluate the efficacy of digital and print advertisements.

Oversee the marketing for school-wide and special community events, including but not limited to: Annual Gala, Alumni Events, Generations Day, Community Shabbat, Graduation, and Board Reception. Occasional support of events off-campus and/or after-hours will be required.

Collaborate with the advancement office to create and help organize special events for the cultivation, recognition, and stewardship of parents, former parents, grandparents, alumni, donors, and community members, while working closely with the Board Development Committee.

Build school forms and report on response data for enrollment, special events, fundraising campaigns, and more.

Oversee all social media posts to ensure they are in line with the school’s brand and mission.

Commit to professional development through attendance at workshops and seminars, participation in webinars, conferences, and staying current with professional literature.

Collaborate with other Independent School counterparts about trends and best practices.

Demonstrate a positive attitude and build relationships across members of the organization.

Practice discretion at all times with sensitive and personal information that might be shared among Administration and Staff (or other parents).

Level of Experience:

● 5-10 years of marketing experience

● BA or MS degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Social Media Management, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field.
