The Accounting Manager is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring accurate financials and leading continuous improvement in accounting processes within the US finance organization at Standard Motor Products, Inc.

(SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts utilized in the maintenance, repair, and service of vehicles in the automotive aftermarket. Overview: The Accounting Manager role is hands-on, results driven, & responsible for driving sustainable continuous improvement within the US finance organization. They will play a pivotal role both in ensuring accurate month close financials as well as leading transformation endeavors bringing best-in-class accounting processes to the Company.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Oversight & execution of the domestic payroll & employee/employer benefit costs accounting
  • Maintain Ceridian pay code to ledger account mapping & the reconciliation of cumulative earnings per Payroll registers to ledger; collaborating with Payroll for timely resolution
  • Oversight & execution of domestic cash transaction recognition, ensure Kyriba posting agrees to the bank statement and A/R aging; and execute entries for non-USD cash
  • Oversight of general accounting areas such as marketing & general accruals, segment reporting allocation entries. Inclusive of A/P, A/R & intercompany reconciliations
  • Oversight of sub consolidation of certain subsidiaries, in accordance with US GAAP & accounting for intercompany activities & and any related eliminations.
  • Assist Tax with recurring and ad-hoc deliverables (e.g. sales tax reports, car lease activity, etc.)
  • Support M&A integration by performing set up of new JDE companies, address books, intercompany setup, profile, report templates, as well as necessary cost centers & accounts.
  • Monitor ERP’s daily sales posting, ensure any posting errors are recorded & resolved timely
  • Assist with identifying & troubleshooting ERP (JD Edwards) issues, when they arise (such as posting errors, currency scripts revisions) & routine review of JDE integrity reports for issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (FP&A, HR, Legal, and IT) on special projects.
  • Monitor identified Key Performance Indicators, with a continuous process improvement mindset
  • Assist internal & external auditors; ensure strong control environment is maintained
  • Supervise & mentor staff
Experience & Skills for the Role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting,.
  • 10+ years accounting experience at a multi-national private or public company; CPA or MBA preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Hyperion/Oracle consolidation, Kyriba, BI Tool, Microsoft (office) 365 or other similar automation tools a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
