Downtown Events Coordinator
LOCATION
Downtown Newton, North Carolina
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, marketing, or related field preferred. Experience in project planning and community development is advantageous. Valid North Carolina driver's license required; Spanish language skills a plus.

The Downtown Events Coordinator is responsible for planning and executing events in Downtown Newton, advocating for local businesses while providing administrative support to enhance the area's appeal as a regional destination.
Description
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Work is performed under the general direction of the Mainstreet Director, and performance is evaluated on the basis of attainment of specific performance objectives, personal observations, and feedback from the Downtown Newton Development Association, merchants, stakeholders, sponsors, volunteers, and visitors.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Supports daily operational needs in executing event management
- Secures event sponsorships and maintains expenses within projected budget
- Researches new and creative ways to improve current and future event experiences in Downtown Newton
- Oversees event logistics; coordinates with other departments
- Sets up designated event activities on day of the event
- Sets and maintains event calendar in collaboration with the Promotions Committee
- Reviews and recommends website calendar content
- Follows up post-event with sponsors and volunteers
- Provides post-event reports to Main Street Director and Downtown Newton Development Association Chair
- Collaborates with City departments to create annual marketing plans
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Teams
- Knowledge of QuickBooks
- Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks
- Ability to record and maintain accounting and meeting records
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local business owners, government officials, associates, sponsors, volunteers, and the general public
- Ability to conduct independent research and prepare clear and precise reports
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to remain organized and prioritize tasks
- Ability to learn NC Main Street reporting requirements in order to maintain accreditation as a Main Street Community
