Job Description: Education & Community Engagement Director (EXEMPT)
Expected Hours/Week: 40 (Monday - Friday: 10a - 6p; weekends as needed)
The Education & Community Engagement Director is responsible for managing the development, execution and refinement of a variety of programs both inside and outside the facility. These programs include workshops, summer camps and timely execution of a wide range of responsibilities relating to office, concerts, recitals, facilities and general operations and parental, student, and public communications. In all aspects the Education & Community Engagement Director demonstrates expert time-management skills.
The Education and Community Engagement Director of the Washington Conservatory reports to the Executive Director of the Conservatory with specific responsibilities as follows and other duties as assigned:
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Manage and Grow WCM’s Education & Community Initiatives 50%
- Provides leadership for WCM’s educational and community programs vision that fits with our mission and, where appropriate, the community’s funding priorities while considering the funding landscape when planning.
- Assist the Executive Director in the development of a long-term and annual plan for educational and community programs. Assists with budget preparation and allocation of resources for educational programs and activities.
- Provide oversight on communications and marketing strategies as they pertain to community education.
- Plans, implements, and supervises school-based programs and partnerships, including the development of relationships with teachers, school directors, and administrators in the public, private and charter sectors. Maintains knowledge of and develops curricula to meet federal and state standards.
- Keeps the educational community informed of programs through regular outreach and relationship building.
- Build and cultivate strong relationships, partnerships, and strategic alliances with targeted key stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Designing and coordinating professional development for faculty, teaching artists and musicians; overseeing curriculum guides, design and implementation;
- Working with an independent evaluator to execute a quasi-experimental design by year 2 of music education programming.
- Implement community outreach programs in a variety of education and social service settings
- Maintain a 1:1 engagement portfolio; conduct extensive coffee conversations with potential partners including educational, artistic and community organizations; serve as the main engagement touch point for these community members. This includes strategy, implementation, follow-up, reporting, and evaluation.
- Participates in grant writing and fund development in support of educational programs. Tracks and reports on data for funder reports.
- Serve as primary contact for local partner organizations.
- Bring fresh ideas, new insights, and creativity to everything we do.
Immerse yourself in DMV educational community 30%
- Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with area school districts, community colleges and other educational/civic institutions. Act as the primary spokesperson for WCM in education matters.
- Contribute to funding proposals for education and community programs; create and administer surveys to schools and organizations to assist with data collection for funders.
- Keep the pulse on community needs, shifting community dynamics, and ways that WCM can continue to serve the community.
- Support performance metrics and accountability measures to drive the achievement of strategic objectives and revenue targets with a specific focus on education and artistic programming
- Play a prominent role in representing WCM at events and meetings with high-profile donors and prospects
- Lead the implementation and support of alongside strategy and operations colleagues to engage and grow community presence, donor relationships and revenue generation
General office tasks 20%
- Work with team members to bring innovative projects to life.
- Launch and manage blog and social media content, including our online calendar.
- Execute office tasks as needed, including logistical preparation for events, sending life cycle gifts to community members in coordination with the Development Manager etc.
Qualifications:
- 7 - 10 years’ experience managing school music programs
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead high-impact outreach campaigns and initiatives at a senior level
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or advocacy roles, preferably with a focus on underserved communities
- Proactivity: A self-starter who takes initiative and delivers high-quality results on time
- Passion: A strong commitment to the power of music education to build community engagement and advocacy, with the ability to connect authentically with stakeholders at all level
- Communication: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to inspire diverse audiences
- Preference for musical experience and background
- Excellent computer skills including Google Workspace, Adobe, CAVA,
- Ability to be self directed
- Willingness to work in a team environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Evenings as needed
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
