The Ohio State University seeks an Email and CRM Marketing Manager to enhance online presence, engage diverse audiences, and drive impactful marketing campaigns for the Advancement team and Alumni Association.

Position Overview

The Ohio State University seeks a results-oriented Email and CRM Marketing Manager to shape our online presence, engage diverse audiences, and drive impactful campaigns.

The Email and CRM Marketing Manager will be responsible for executing and measuring targeted marketing campaigns in direct digital marketing channels (email, CRM, SMS, social media, web push notifications, mobile apps, and online advertising) to support the Advancement team and Alumni Association's goals. Reporting to the Associate Director, Omnichannel Strategy, this role requires expertise in HTML for web and email, automation for SMS and email, and cross channel strategies. Collaborating with cross-functional teams is essential.

This professional will operate with a high degree of independence, decision-making capabilities, judgment, consistency, and relationship building while leveraging excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong organizational skills with an extreme attention to detail, to collaborate and interact effectively with university, distinguished, and notable constituents, that include alumni, donors, faculty, grateful patients, etc. Critical thinker with a knack for problem-solving, comfortable adapting to ever-changing environments, and discretion are essential when handling sensitive information.

Department Overview

Advancement Marketing and Communications (AMC) provides strategic consultation, content generation, and creative solutions across a variety of channels that achieve marketing and communications objectives for The Ohio State University’s alumni, donor, and grateful patient audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate projects that advance specific direct digital marketing channels (email, CRM, SMS, social media, web push notifications, mobile apps, and online advertising) strategies and goals that support Advancement Marketing Communications and the Alumni Association

  • Develop and implement targeted email and SMS campaigns using Salesforce Marketing Cloud

  • Responsible for making recommendations and decisions with a high degree of independence, using strong judgment, strategic thought, consistency, and discretion, in accomplishing objectives

  • Provide oversight and design dynamic emails for various stakeholders, including alumni, donors, and prospective students

  • Develop personalized communication workflows based on donor giving history, university affinities, preferences, and engagement levels

  • Leverage data to create page optimizations and A/B testing opportunities

  • Optimize email templates, landing pages, and other direct digital marketing channels

  • Build texting campaigns for events, giving campaigns, and alumni activities

  • Assist in creating responsive designs via HTML5 and CSS3 (i.e. working in Drupal and SFMC)

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the university to ensure alignment of direct digital marketing efforts

  • Serve as a subject matter expert

  • Manage content on landing pages

  • Create wireframes and mockups to visualize landing page layouts and user flows

  • Craft visually compelling content and analyze social media analytics for campaign optimization

  • Develop and manage content for the Alumni Association's and Advancements websites and other direct digital marketing channels

  • Execute direct digital advertising campaigns across platforms like Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn

  • Coordinate with graphic designers, team members, and vendors to develop media high-quality media assets

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities

  • Track and analyze campaign performance to identify areas for improvement and optimize journey effectiveness

  • Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media Experience in digital marketing

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience

  • Experience with social media platforms, email marketing tools, and digital advertising platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Sprout, HootSuite, HubSpot, Google Analytics)

  • Experience using SEO and SEM best practices

  • Four to eight years of experience in digital marketing

  • Certified in Salesforce Marketing Cloud and/or marketing automation tools

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software (i.e. Canva)

  • Familiarity is expected with various platforms and tools such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Tableu, Scalefunder, Sprout Social, and BlackBaud or similar customer relationship management system

  • Experience with Google Analytics and other web analytics tools

  • Experience working in a higher education or non-profit setting

  • Knowledge of SQL or other data query languages

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices

  • Developed Preference Centers to enhance donor engagement and communication within the university's Advancement unit
