Job Summary and Qualifications
Acts as a primary liaison between the HealthONE hospitals and EMS agencies. Serves as an advocate between the hospitals, EMS Medical Directors, ED physicians and ED Medical Directors, Emergency Department staff, Service Line Leaders, EMS agencies, and patients. Works with the EMS agencies and EMS Medical Directors to coordinator and provide CE as planned annually. Serves as the primary resource for EMS agencies.
Manages EMS relationship development, implementation and management activities, including:
- Facilitates planning process and implementation activities with hospital leadership and physicians
- Participates in budgeting process, as appropriate
- Develops and grows hospital/EMS collaboration projects and business opportunities
- Participates in various recognition programs for EMS
- Ensures service line quality, e.g. processes, services, satisfaction, and aligns with facility/division and national quality standards and best practices
- Maintains EMS breakroom/lounge and manages communicated content (electronic & print) available to EMS
- Triage and research EMS pertinent complaints
- Coordinates EMS education activities and EMS specific events with facility and service line leadership and physicians for home facility.
- Provides patient follow-up to EMS as appropriate
- Facilitates EMS patient care report (PCR) and face sheet information exchange between EMS and the facility
- Monitors biophone calls for accuracy of information and quality of interactions
- Facilitates orientation to EMS operations/functions for Emergency Department staff
- Provides customer service training, biophone etiquette training, and coordinates ride-a-longs for hospital and Emergency Department staff and physicians
- Leads the coordination and communication of marketing information and sponsorships targeted at EMS agencies and agency personnel for Division and home facility.
- Facilitates the various recognition programs for EMS agencies and personnel
- Monitors and communicates performance and inter-agency issues.
- Assists agency in completing and reporting agency performance improvement monitoring.
- Assists with face sheet and PCR reconciliation
- Facilitates and monitors face-to-face handoffs and contact with EMS and Emergency Department personnel. Provides timely feedback and support to both parties
- Provides follow-up information to agencies for cardiac, stroke, trauma and other appropriate interesting/educational cases
- Reviews and analyzes data in conjunction with the EMS Medical Director. Attends agency PI meetings
- Assists with primary, refresher, and standardized courses as mutually agreed upon
- Other duties as assigned
Participates in other key areas that directly impact service line performance:
- Facilitates the coordination of the use of hospital paramedics including training, policies & procedures and certifications
- Coordinates facility staff training on EMS etiquette, reception, and relationships as appropriate
- Marketing & branding specific to EMS and public safety as appropriate
- Market level intelligence on competitors and consumers (EMS and other public safety agencies)
- Ensures orientation of students and agency personnel to the facilities and requirements
- Provides supervision and education to students in the clinical areas
- Rounds periodically on EMS students/program participants while in the clinical area
Communication
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships within the organization based on experience and feedback obtained during the year
- Utilizes tact and appropriate problem-solving process when dealing with issues identified
- Relays concerns and initiates problem solving in a timely manner
- Interacts positively with staff members from other departments, HealthONE facilities, agency personnel, and students
- Serves as an ambassador for all department programs
- Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality regarding patient and agency personnel information

What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- EMT, Paramedic or RN License required
- BLS certifications required
- ACLS certifications preferred
- PALS or equivalent preferred
- ITLS or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a field/clinical setting as a paramedic, EMT or emergency nurse
- Must maintain documentation of 16 hours per year of continuing education in EMS topics and instructional techniques.
