Job Description
Position Summary:
For nearly two centuries, St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf (SJI) has delivered exceptional listening and spoken language solutions for children with hearing loss, reflecting the charism of the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet (CSJs).
The Events and Communications Specialist reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and manages event logistics, oversees internal and external communications, and leads social media efforts for St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf, with locations in Indianapolis, IN and St. Louis, MO. This role is ideal for a highly organized, creative professional who thrives in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Coordination
- Plan and execute fundraising events at both the IN and MO campuses.
- Coordinate logistics such as venue selection, vendor management, registration, and day-of-event details.
- Develop event timelines and ensure all deadlines are met.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth event execution.
- Track event budgets and provide post-event evaluations and reports.
Communication Management
- Develop and distribute internal newsletters and updates to staff and stakeholders.
- Draft and distribute press releases, promotional materials, and donor communications.
- Maintain and update the organization’s website with current events, news, and resources.
Social Media Coordination
- Create, schedule, and monitor engaging content across all social media platforms.
- Develop and implement a social media strategy to enhance the organization’s online presence.
- Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies to optimize reach and engagement.
- Respond to comments and messages to build relationships with the online community.
General Support
- Work closely with the leadership team to align communications and events with organizational goals.
- Assist with donor and partner engagement initiatives.
- Maintain a database of media contacts, vendors, and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Event Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in event planning, communications, or social media management.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience developing and managing budgets for events or programs.
- Proficiency in social media platforms, email marketing tools, and website management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector is a plus.
