Preferred candidates should have supervisory experience and be bilingual in English/Spanish.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director of Marketing and Communications at Harris County Precinct 2 will oversee communications efforts to enhance public awareness and perception of the precinct, while managing a team and executing strategic communication initiatives.
Position Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partner with the precinct’s staff and external agency to aggressively advance key the precinct storylines with the media keeping the conversation relevant with the media and stakeholders through long-term and self-driven-styled efforts.
- Develop and execute strategic media relations and communications plan that increases awareness and positive perception of Precinct Two internally and externally.
- Capitalize on unique and newsworthy stories as well as leveraging unexpected opportunities as they arise.
- Actively manage professional relationships with local and regional media engaging continuously with relevant media, editors, reporters, producers and bloggers across relevant media outlets.
- Support media relations efforts including strategy development, story pitching, fact checking, reporter targeting and results packaging.
- Create, prepare and organize news releases, media advisories, announcements, media events and broadcasts to improve relationships with media sources and journalists to obtain optimum media coverage for the precinct while the ensuring accuracy of information.
- Host media, assist with photo and/or video shoots, and supporting social media and public relations.
- Partner with the precinct staff while using a strategic approach in overseeing the department’s community relations, initiatives, internal communications and other activities specific to Precinct Two.
- Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Staff act as a strategic communications advisor to management by tracking periodicals, public attitudes, flagging possible consequences of prospective decisions, developing key messages, managing issues and crisis communications.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
- Two (2) years of experience serving as the primary communications lead for an organization.
- Seven (7) years in communications and/or marketing
- Three (3) years as a journalist (including editor or producer) in a major media market
- Effective and proficient writing, editing, project planning, and communication skills are required.
- Ability to convey complex information in clear, easy to understand formats.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to meet deadline.
- Detail oriented, professional, punctual, dependable, self-motivated individual with ability to think creatively.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.

- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Noise level in the work environment is usually average.
- This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files of up to 50 lbs, open filling cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
