SHORT DESCRIPTION

The Floor Coordinator ensures quality visitor experiences by managing floor staff and programming at the Kentucky Science Center, supporting education initiatives, and fostering a positive environment for engagement and learning.

This position is responsible for day to day coordination of floor staff to ensure visitors encounter quality, consistent, engaging, and entertaining experiences throughout 50,000 square feet of exhibits. The Floor Coordinator goal is implementing a robust rotation of different hands on activities, demonstrations and other programming options for our Education team members. This role will provide structure, training and coaching to help team members deliver visitor engagement of highest quality, and will contribute to developing a positive, enthusiastic, visitor forward expectation for team.


The coordinator will be responsible and collaborate daily logistics of visitors and groups as well as broader floor programming alignment for Science Celebrations and special events. As such, the role will effectively respond to changes in schedule of all education team members and volunteers when applicable. Kentucky Science Center seeks a candidate that can connect to our team in many areas, demonstrate effective leadership and be an efficient and organized multi-tasker who can manage operation of multiple experiences such as daily floor experiences.


Responsibilities:

Daily team coordination and supervision

  • Provide daily schedules for floor staff and help ensure that MakerPlace is open, demos scheduled accordingly, walkups assessed, and the floor consistently is inviting and welcoming.
  • Navigate any call-ins, staffing changes, scheduling changes, and unexpected events on the floor in a way that supports the daily staff as well as the visitor experience.
  • Supports floor logistics with Science Center operating procedures and Visitor Experience procedures for groups, visitors and/or staff
  • Ensure that safety protocols are consistently followed for storage and use of education supplies.
  • Work closely with Scheduling, School and Camps Programs to ensure that those programs are getting the support they need from floor staff.
  • Additional integration of any rentals, exhibits, marketing, membership or other KSC department events that may activate floor.

Program Facilitation and Oversight

  • Responsible for maintenance and scheduling of visitor experience programming using best practices in the discipline integrated with Science Center’s mission to deliver safe, energetic, and fun activities for life-long learners and their families.
  • Provide support for daily floor experience for all Education team interactions with visitors, walk-up activities, and public demonstrations.
  • Serve as co-leads or on project teams for floor adjacent programs such as routine Science Celebration
  • Collaborate with team members for floor engagement and activation for Adult series, Thunderblast, or other related cross departmental events.
  • Work with scheduled staff members to do ongoing training, professional development, and provide opportunities for professional growth of Education team members assigned to floor experience.
  • Reinforce and support a training model for visitor facilitation and methodology training that can be scaled into larger education department operation as well as institution wide opportunities.

Evaluation and Observation

  • With broader floor team, train and onboard all educators to floor procedures and programming suite.
  • Implement quality control initiatives to ensure consistency in visitor interaction and effectiveness of Education staff and volunteer, training. This includes utilizing an established matrix for evaluation of all visitor engagement experiences and of Education Staff and Volunteers.
  • Represent and act as a daily constant for KSC’s scheduled floor staff.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $40,000 annually, Full time non-exempt position, 40 hours per week.

  • Able to provide proper direction for team-tasks and projects; assess, monitor and review progress and accuracy of work completed
  • Ability to organize and assist with program development, fabrication and facilitation.
  • Ability to act with tact and diplomacy, dealing effectively with outside community partners as well as internally with KSC staff.
  • Ability to motivate and dynamically communicate with diverse audiences using excellent public speaking skills.
  • Ability to employ functional leadership and management skills with a large and diverse team.
  • Ability to write clearly in communication with staff and public.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different ages, experiences, and economic levels.
  • Ability to troubleshoot- spot potential problems before they arise.
  • Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with limited resources; effective problem-solver.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on a regular basis
