SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Shift Supervisor assists in daily operations of the Coffeehouse, focusing on management duties, customer service, employee training, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.
Summary: This position is responsible for assisting manager in day-to-day Coffeehouse operations and will assist with training, customer service, product knowledge and education, and encouraging safe work practices. The Shift Supervisor will act as manager on duty in the absence of the Crew Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Will perform and oversee open and close procedures
- Verify Coffeehouse employees complete assigned checklists at beginning and end of shifts
- Assist manager with shift scheduling when needed and manage staffing throughout each shift
- Act as point of escalation if/when manager is not available
- May assist with ordering supplies, merchandise, or equipment
- Assist with training new employees
- Count and balance cash drawers as needed following store operating procedure
- Record all shift production, merchandising, and quality control of Coffeehouse
- Input and update daily specials on signage and POS system
- Assign necessary tasks to employees throughout each shift
- Greet customers as they enter establishment and deliver an exceptional guest experience
- Answer questions about menu items, make suggestions, inform customers of any specials or featured items, and take customer orders
- Prepare drink and food items accurately following recipes and/or customer preference
- Prepare hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, salads, sandwiches, bakery items, and/or other similar food items
- Stock all ingredients, condiments, supplies, etc.
- Operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned
- Ensure customer service stations are well-stocked, organized, and clean
- Ensure all checklist items for opening, closing, and beginning/ending of shift are completed as assigned
- Perform cleaning duties including washing dishes, emptying and taking out trash, mopping floors, wiping down tables
- Ensure all food and beverage prep areas and customer seating areas are kept clean and organized
- Upsell merchandise and process transactions
- Stock merchandise area and keep organized; may inventory, order, or receive products as directed
- Respond to and resolve any customer complaints in a professional manner and escalate to the manager or supervisor on duty if necessary
- May coordinate with marketing team to produce content for social media pages
- Adhere to and ensure all employee compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include morning, evenings, and weekends
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2-3 years food service experience required
- Minimum of one year of management required
- Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certified or ability to obtain certification upon hire and maintain for duration of employment depending on local and statement requirements.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
- Basic math skills
- Ability to follow all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices
- Ability to work well with a team
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Environmental and Physical Activity Requirements:
This job operates in a fast-paced food and beverage service setting that involves standing and walking for extended periods of time. This role routinely uses food and beverage service equipment such as coffee brewers, blenders, and food prep utensils. The daily responsibilities of this position constantly require effective talking, hearing, walking, finger dexterity, reaching, stooping, and grasping functions. The position also often requires reaching, lifting (up to 25 pounds). Must be able to read print and computer-based materials and to do so with consistent accuracy.

Pay Range: $20.96 - 29.36/hour + Tips.
