SHORT DESCRIPTION

The Graphic Designer at The Mailworks will create engaging designs for direct mail campaigns while ensuring adherence to brand guidelines and project deadlines.

Position: Graphic Designer

Reports To: Director of Client Services

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Compensation: $45,700 - $52,000

The Mailworks is a woman owned family business specializing in the creation and distribution of direct mail campaigns for a nation-wide customer base. The Mailworks operates 24 hours a day, usually 6 days a week. The team of 80+ employees range from executives, marketing specialists, designers, developers, and production workers.

The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visually engaging and innovative designs that effectively convey the objectives of various projects and campaigns. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of brand guidelines, and the ability to stay abreast of industry trends to create effective designs. The Graphic Designer will work closely with the Director of Creative Development and other team members, playing a key role in transforming creative briefs and client requests into compelling, visual, direct mail solutions.

Duties:

CREATIVE DESIGN

  • Develop and conceptualize design solutions that meet the objectives of the project or campaign
  • Create visually engaging graphics, layouts, and designs to properly convey provided creative briefs and/or client requests
  • Ensure all designs adhere to client brand guidelines if provided
  • Create and maintain product type and design thumbnails
  • Stay updated with industry trends and apply insights to create innovative and effective designs

DESIGN FILE PROCESSING AND VERIFICATION

  • Prepare and format designs for print, ensuring they meet pre-press and production specifications
  • Coordinate with pre-press and production on any product type updates needed to improve efficiency
  • Perform thorough quality checks on all designs for accuracy, including proofreading and adherence to product type standards
  • Ensure final designs meet or exceed quality standards
  • Accurately integrate variable data fields into product type templates and ensure proper PresConnect registration allowing for proper, efficient order entry by Client Services Department
  • Ensure variable data elements align with design specifications and workflow requirements
  • Conduct testing and proofing to validate the accuracy of variable data merges

DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT

  • Organize and maintain a digital library of graphics, media, and design assets for easy access and retrieval
  • Catalog and archive completed projects and materials in a logical and easily accessible manner

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COLLABORATION

  • Manage design timelines and deadlines effectively, ensuring that all deliverables are met on time and within the agreed-upon schedule
  • Work closely with DoCD and internal team members to understand requirements and deliverables
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and incorporate feedback into design revisions
  • Provide regular project status updates to stakeholders

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development in emerging graphic design tools and softwares that can enhance design workflows and outputs
  • Experiment with emerging technologies (like AR/VR, AI in design) to understand their uses and implementation
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members to foster a collaborative environment
