Head Beach Volleyball Coach & Social Media Marketing Coordinator

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) - Plainview Campus

SUPERVISED BY: Athletics Director

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

POSITIONS SUPRVISED: Beach Volleyball coaching staff

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The head coach is responsible for leading, guiding, and mentoring the Beach Volleyball program in a positive Christian manner, including compliance with the NAIA and SAC regulations. The coach accepts and delegates tasks from the Director of Athletics. The coach provides leadership for a program that contributes to the holistic development of the students.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES

Beach Volleyball Coach

  • Lead the beach volleyball program based on proven Christian integrity and ethics consistent with the University Mission Statement.
  • Possess expert knowledge of skills and strategies related to beach volleyball
  • Lead and supervise the volleyball coaching staff
  • Monitor, mentor, and coach student-athletes participating in the beach volleyball program
  • Coordinate and supervise the recruiting process, as well as carry a roster that aligns with the university expectations, the NAIA sports sponsorship, and full competition
  • Coordinate practice schedules
  • Schedule matches
  • Supervise fundraising campaigns
  • Supervise marketing campaigns
  • Coordinate program travel
  • Supervise facilities and maintenance of equipment and beach facility
  • Address safety and security concerns. Stop any activity that is dangerous to the student-athlete or other students.
  • Administer all budgets related to the beach volleyball program
  • Supervise academic success initiatives for student-athletes (class attendance, tutoring attendance, etc.)
  • Seek opportunities to participate in professional organizations, activities, and development (association membership, conference attendance, publications, etc.). Represent WBU at conferences, trainings, retreats, etc.
  • Evaluate the beach volleyball program. Participate in University assessment activities, instructional effectiveness programs, and strategic planning
  • Serve as the indoor assistant volleyball coach
  • Remain in compliance with all NAIA and SAC regulations, including, but not limited to playing and preactice seasons and involvement in recruiting efforts.

Social Media Marketing Coordinator

  • Assist in developing and implementing marketing, branding, and promotional plans for assigned sports to increase attendance, awareness, and revenue. Coordinate the planning of game-day sponsorship activities.
  • Manage gameday staff such as interns, public address announcers, music personnel, and spirit squads. Ensure staff is prepared with timing coordination procedures for each game to ensure sponsor ads are visibly displayed throughout the game.
  • Concentrate on live event productions and appeal to multi-generational audiences.
  • Cultivate relationships with campus partners to identify mutually beneficial programming for students around home athletic events. Working alongside campus programming and communication teams to find ways to enhance the student experience on campus in a mutually beneficial way.
  • Collaborate with assigned sports and other external units of the athletic department to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms. Meet regularly with departmental heads and coaches to create live content that will be engaging and memorable for fans attending in-person and virtually.
  • Plan and assist with community outreach and grassroots marketing programs to create excitement for athletics.
  • Update select content and deliver timely and relevant information to fans, ticketholders, donors, and students. Work to ensure accurate, timely information appeals to a multi-generational fan base.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of NAIA and SAC rules and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and think critically.
  • Ability to work well with others and comfortable taking initiative.
  • Ability to have a professional image and demeanor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in collegiate or professional sports marketing. Experience can include internships or graduate assistant level.
  • Email marketing experience.
  • SideArm website experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in attendance percentages at games.
  • Experience serving multiple sports fan experience activities.

Hours of Work: Plainview campus - Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. External campuses - Although full-time, nonexempt external campus employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. Normal work days on all campuses are Monday through Friday
