SHORT DESCRIPTION
As the Ethics and Compliance Director at AstraZeneca, you will drive the Compliance program in the US, lead a team to ensure ethical standards, and collaborate with leadership to enhance compliance and sustainability objectives within the Oncology Business Unit.
As the Ethics and Compliance Director, you will be responsible for delivering the Compliance program in the United States. Leading a team of Compliance business professionals, you will strategically contribute to the direction of AstraZeneca’s compliance function and broader sustainability objectives. Representing Global Compliance as a member of the US Oncology Leadership and other senior cross-functional settings, you will co-chair the US Oncology Compliance Committee. Together with your colleagues, you'll foster a culture of ethics, integrity, inclusion, and diversity while shaping AstraZeneca’s patient-centricity and digital priorities for the future. Your role will further our purpose to drive high standards of ethical behavior and accountability across AstraZeneca for sustainable success. You will take steps and create initiatives to strengthen our commitment to doing the right thing. Reporting directly to the VP Compliance Oncology Business Unit (OBU), you will be based at our office in Gaithersburg, MD, USA.
Accountabilities
- Key member of the OBU United States (US) Senior Leadership Team, pivotal in shaping the strategic direction and driving the success of AstraZeneca's Oncology Business Unit in the US.
- Lead a team of Compliance Business Professionals responsible for delivering the AZ OBU Compliance program in the US.
- Promote simplification and standardization throughout the US and across AstraZeneca, emphasizing Compliance by Design and digital solutions.
- Deliver on accountabilities spanning all elements of AZ’s Compliance program, including business partnering, risk assessments, training, education, presentations, review of control measures, monitoring, auditing, investigations, and reporting.
- Implement and maintain an effective compliance program, including co-chairing the US Oncology Compliance Committee.
- Serve as primary contact for compliance to (senior) US OBU employees comprising teams operating in the US and at Global level.
- Translate questions and issues into concrete improvements in policies, procedures, and training to simplify ways of working, strengthen our compliance program, and sustain an ethical culture in OBU.
- Develop and deliver compliance objectives (aligned with Global Compliance strategy and objectives) to ensure an embedded and streamlined approach to governance and assurance.
- Support AZ’s risk framework and risk register, including effective mitigation of assigned compliance risks (e.g., inappropriate product promotion, data privacy, anti-bribery/anti-corruption or fraud).
- Collaborate effectively with and serve as a trusted partner for colleagues from the OBU, other Senior Executive Team functions including Biopharmaceuticals and Rare Disease Business Units, and AZ’s Enabling Units.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Senior professional with advanced degree and working experience in compliance, law, accountancy, or business consultancy
- 10 years working experience in pharmaceuticals and familiar with fast-paced commercial environments
- Proven working experience and success leading teams in large pharmaceutical multicultural commercial organizations
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical marketing and sales interactions with all customer types
- Deep knowledge of the US healthcare compliance legal framework (e.g., FCA, AKS, FDCA, HiPAA, SOx) and other relevant corporate governance, healthcare regulations, laws, and standards, including US-specific healthcare fraud & abuse regulations
- Excellent analytical, written, and oral communications skills in English
- Strong collaborative, partnering, and interpersonal skills with a proactive mindset and a pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach
- Strong ability to work independently, capable of dealing with ambiguity in a fast-paced, sophisticated working environment
- Uncompromising ethical standards, honest, operating with absolute discretion and confident in exercising independent judgment

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $173,440.80 - $260,161.20 USD. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
