Job Summary:
The HIV Prevention Specialist serves as an expert on HIV prevention, sexual health equity initiatives, and advocacy efforts. This multifaceted role requires comprehensive expertise in sexual health education, HIV prevention, harm reduction, and community engagement. This position will be responsible for providing education and consultation with community partners, developing and facilitating community engagement activities (including health fairs, exhibits, and public health marketing campaign materials), and oversight of the youth leadership team and advisory boards.
The HIV Prevention Specialist is a member of the CHIP Prevention Program. The CHIP Prevention Program provides HIV, Hepatitis C, and sexual health education and outreach in partnership with over 20 community organizations across the state. We focus our interventions on those who are at the highest risk for acquiring HIV, including people of color, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, people experiencing housing instability or justice involvement, people engaging in transactional sex, and those experiencing substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
The HIV Prevention Specialist is responsible for the implementation of primary prevention activities within the Denver Metro area and Front Range. The Prevention Specialist actively engages with community partners to promote HIV education and prevention services and aligns activities to the CHIP Prevention Program strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement rapid HIV, HCV, and STI testing and counseling at designated non-clinical and clinical testing sites within the community.
- Administer mental health, substance use, intimate partner violence, and PrEP screenings, providing appropriate referrals to testing session clients.
- Explore community partnerships for testing and facilitate sustainable testing opportunities.
- Report deliverables and outcomes within the required time frames.
- Conduct PrEP and PEP assessments, referrals, and navigation.
- Support clinical HIV prevention and testing efforts at youth-focused collaborative clinics at Children’s Hospital.
- Support the development of HIV prevention and PrEP marketing campaigns.
- Complete monthly community engagement/mobilization reports.
- Define, outline, and execute ongoing community engagement efforts to maximize impact within priority populations. This would include developing an established curriculum for community education and collaborating on public health marketing campaigns.
- Assist in grant writing efforts with the Prevention team.
- Provide planning and oversight of the youth leadership program. This may include planning and facilitating regular meetings, assigning group and individual tasks/assignments, scheduling participation in youth-focused community events with the Youth Leadership Team
- Collaborate with the Digital Platform Coordinator and Prevention Team to create youth-focused sexual health content for the website and social media

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in public/community health, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited University.
- One (1) year of professional-level experience working in HIV/STI prevention or other community health programs.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be willing and able to successfully pass a 10-panel drug test.
- Must be willing and able to successfully pass a national criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public/community health, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited university.
- Three (3) years of professional-level experience working in HIV/STI prevention or other community health programs.
- Experience leading PrEP assessment, navigation, and advocacy among community members and agencies.
- Experience working with diverse populations; including LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, unhoused, incarcerated/recently released, and those engaging in sex work and/or substance use/abuse.
- Experience facilitating groups – including advisory boards and community coalitions.
- Completed (or ability to complete) certifications for HIV/HCV tester training with CDPHE.
- Experience with public health marketing using social media and web-based platforms.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to work locations throughout the community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences including healthcare professionals, community members, and stakeholders.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Demonstrated experience in community organizing and/or community engagement.
- Ability to interact in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner with a diverse client population and a commitment to health equity.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, internet, and email.
- Ability to complete required training and certifications to perform rapid point-of-care testing.

Anticipated Salary Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $61,546 to $78,287.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
