Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
The Manager of Athletics Business Development reports directly to the VP, Director of Athletics. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and cultivating business and customer relationships that support the financial and operational goals of the athletics department. This position focuses on generating leads, establishing sales pipelines, securing partnerships and relationships that enhance revenue streams. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the sports industry, strong sales acumen, and a proven track record in business development. This position will work closely with other external initiatives including marketing, media relations and ticketing.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
  • Generate leads, establish sales pipelines, and secure partnerships/relationships that enhance revenue streams for the Athletic Department. This includes the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive strategic plan for development activities to include monitoring, analyzing, and reporting results.
  • Assist with maintaining records for the Cardinal Athletics Fund, corporate sponsorships, and assist with outbound communication to current and prospective stakeholders. Assist with planning and executing special events to further engage prospective and current donors and business partners.
  • Work closely with the marketing, operations, and events teams to align business development efforts with the overall goals of the athletics department. Participate in planning and executing promotional events, hospitality, and game-day experiences for donors and business partners.
  • Support various units and initiatives within Athletics, including ticket operations, licensing, marketing, corporate partnerships, and media.
  • Support mission and vision of the Athletic Department with integrity and in compliance with all NCAA, conference and University rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP, Director.

  • Demonstrated ability to create development strategies and plans, goal setting, monitors and follows through effectively.
  • Ability to work with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and promote a collaborative work environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 25 pounds while performing the essential functions as described within the essential job functions.

Job Conditions:
  • Duties are typically performed within athletics facilities and other buildings or outdoors.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position summary and essential job functions OR an equivalent level of experience, in lieu of education, sufficient to successfully perform essential job functions.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with business development, including generating leads, establishing sales pipelines, and securing partnerships and relationships that enhance revenue streams.
