Manager I, External Relations (Louisiana)
LOCATION
Fully remote in Louisiana, with preference for Baton Rouge or New Orleans. The role is available starting January 2025.

The Manager I, External Relations at EdTrust will advance key policy priorities and equitable education decision-making in Louisiana by engaging with partners, leading advocacy activities, and enhancing the capacity of organizations and student advocates.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY
EdTrust seeks a Manager I, External Relations in its Louisiana office to join a staff who are committed to fulfilling a mission of closing opportunity gaps that disproportionately affect students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.
The Manager I, External Relations works with the State Director to advance key policy priorities and influence equitable education decision-making in Louisiana. This role focuses on engagement, advocacy, and legislative tracking, as well as strengthening the advocacy capacity of organizational partners and students across the state through advocacy and learning activities. The Manager I, also represents EdTrust Louisiana externally to enhance our reputation and deepen and expand our relationships with a diverse range of organizations and coalitions across the state.

This role, available in January 2025, is based in the state of Louisiana with preference for Baton Rouge or New Orleans. There is no brick and mortar office in Louisiana so this role is fully remote. A stipend is available for initial office set-up. The Manager I, External Relations reports to the State Director and may supervise fellows or interns.
ABOUT THE MANAGER ROLE
The responsibilities and objectives for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collaborate closely with the State Director to develop and implement our advocacy and engagement strategy in Louisiana, particularly around the policy of teacher diversity and dual enrollment
- Design and manage the implementation of equity-centered learning opportunities and advocacy activities to engage and enhance the advocacy capacity of partner organizations, student advocates, and policymakers
- Lead, manage and provide technical assistance for virtual and in-person events, trainings, policy briefings, grassroots and direct lobbying, and other related work with community and advocate audiences
- Identify, cultivate, and strengthen relationships to advance EdTrust policy and advocacy goals with a wide range of communities and stakeholders, including community-based organizations, members from the business and civil rights communities, policymakers, and P-16 educators (e.g., school board leaders, college presidents, and other institutional and systems leaders).
- Serve as spokesperson for EdTrust in coalitions, at external events, meetings, and other key functions, as well as on social media
- Collaborate closely with Development staff to inform proposal writing and reporting, and attend funder meetings
- Stay current and knowledgeable on organizational priorities and recent research from EdTrust and our partners

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in history, public policy, political science, or a related field;
- At least some experience (e.g., at least four years) in related roles in education, policy, advocacy, training, or external relations programming focused on equity in education
- Familiarity with education policy and/or advocacy, with a focus on equity, in the state of Louisiana.
COMPENSATION
This position falls in Level C of our salary structure. New hire offers typically fall between the minimum and mid-point of the range: $67,648 - $84,560. Offers will be commensurate with skills, experience, and internal equity.
