RMHC Triangle offers eight programs in Raleigh, Durham & Chapel Hill that support seriously ill children and their families, including three residential Ronald McDonald Houses and five medical-center-based respite programs for families and caregivers. RMHC Triangle supports guest families from across NC, the US, and the world who seek critical-care treatment for their children at the Triangle’s world-class children’s hospitals.
Location and Hours
The primary communications office is located at Ronald McDonald House of Durham. Secondary desk space is available at Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. As a key communicator of RMHC Triangle stories, the Marketing & Communications Manager maintains a regular in-person presence across program sites in order to communicates with all program staff and fulfill print/design needs and develop/implement family stories.
The chapter values personal time to recharge and offers a generous benefits program including paid time off; however, this position requires work outside of traditional office hours, including occasional weekends and weeknights for development events and chapter programs.
Position Summary
The position reports to the Vice President of Annual Giving & Communications and is primarily responsible for working with the VP to create and implement an overall communications plan. The main areas of responsibility include:
- Creating and maintaining strong digital content, including social media, website, and other online platforms.
- Building and maintaining a fresh portfolio of family, volunteer, and donor stories (video, photo, and written) and effectively sharing with the public and staff for sharing with donors, volunteers, and other key constituents
- Publication and design support for chapter materials as well as the program operations and development teams, including collateral for chapter major-gifts program and special events.
- Raising chapter visibility by supporting media partnerships and keeping RMHC Triangle visible across community calendars and other platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
Digital Content
- Maintain chapter content calendar for coordination of all external messaging in partnership with the development team
- Develop strategies for RMHC Triangle social media sites (Facebook, Instagram & LinkedIn) that align with marketing and fundraising goals; administer budget and implement paid advertising on social media
- Create and implement social media posts with a balance of information, inspiration, engagement, and calls to action; write and design evergreen promotions (e.g. car donations and volunteer recruitment), online giving campaigns (e.g. Facebook birthdays, fundraising events, Giving Tuesday), and ongoing and seasonal wish lists (summer restock, December holiday giving)
- Manage monthly and special chapter eNews program, including audience management, content, and design
- Coordinate with development team on the fulfillment of all sponsor benefits through social postings and in-event recognition
- Coordinate chapter cause marketing efforts, serving as first point of contact for groups wishing to partner
- Maintain chapter website, including fresh stories and images
- Build crowdfunding sites for chapter initiatives and for RMHC friends & donors
- Manage other online platforms to support RMHC Triangle fundraising efforts
- Collaborate and support Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) student athletes
- Set and manage social media, website, and other online goals with Google analytics
Telling the Story
- Work with the family-services, volunteer, and development teams to identify feature stories
- Interview RMHC Triangle guest families, donors, and volunteers representing all RMHC Triangle programs and write stories for use in communications and at events; use compassion and judgement in how stories are shared; fully disclose the potential uses of family, donor, and volunteer information and photos before interviews, and follow interviewee wishes
- Share story content by print, email, and posts through the website, eNews, and social media
- Create and edit video stories for social media, development team/donors, and events
- Share story leads with development team for event presentations, meetings & printed materials
- Build a portfolio of high-impact photos that represent all programs
- Collaborate on branding campaigns with McDonald’s and other community partners
Publication & Design
- Manage all aspects of RMHC Triangle general communications, including website content & design, letterhead, business cards, signs, and email signatures
- Use Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other apps to develop print & video assets for the programs, volunteer, and development teams
- Adhere to RMHC Global brand and style guidelines and work with other staff to maintain brand standards
- Work with printers to meeting budget and timing goals
- Work with staff on mailing lists for publications
- Support the development team in building effective event programs
- Design merchandise and gifts that build the brand of RMHC Triangle and support our relationship with constituents; assist staff in designing merchandise for events and donor recognition
- Manage inventory of both merchandise and branded printed materials & supplies
- Support development staff on branding campaigns with McDonald’s and other community partners
- Manage content, design, and printing of corporate assets, including letterhead, business cards, signs, and email signatures
- Support RMHC Triangle events through the creation of invitations, in-event materials, and other collateral; support community events with branded materials, as needed
- Support RMHC Triangle major gifts with major donor and other specialty eNewsletters, invitations, and fundraising materials
Enhance Chapter Visibility
- Support the VP of Annual Giving & Communications with media relations activities
- Manage RMHC Triangle presence on community calendars and other online platforms
Qualifications
- High energy, flexibility, and passion for the RMH mission
- Adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Team orientation and strong collaboration skills
- 3 years of professional experience in nonprofit marketing and communications
- Experienced and skillful in graphic design using the Adobe Creative Suite
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and familiarity with AP writing style guidelines
- Experience with email marketing platforms and tools
- Experience working and contracting with designers and commercial printers
- Skilled in communicating with a wide variety of audiences and through multiple media to raise mission awareness, share stories, publicize events, and promote giving opportunities
- Ability to build, articulate, and implement strategic and comprehensive communications plan
- Understanding of how nonprofit marketing and communications support relationship-building and fundraising success
- Ability to work independently without close oversight while maintaining a team spirit
- Strong time management skills with exceptional attention to detail in writing and design
- Flexible and adaptable style; positive and welcoming attitude; someone who provides service above and beyond what is anticipated
- Willingness to participate in scheduled chapter fundraising events and occasional family programs
- Bachelor’s degree desired
- Valid driver’s license
