SHORT DESCRIPTION
This position supports the delivery of quality care at the Renown Health Pennington Cancer Institute, focusing on operational excellence, patient experience, and strategic initiatives while ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering positive relationships.
Position Purpose
Incumbent has significant operational scope with respect to the Renown Health Pennington Cancer Institute (PCI) and other ancillary duties as assigned. This position supports organizational leaders and Medical Directors in the delivery of quality care and service in a cost-effective manner. Incumbent is accountable for leading staff to assume accountability for decisions and actions for patient care in the practice in accordance with Federal and State requirements and organizational goals. This individual is responsible for the execution of strategic initiatives at a departmental, divisional and system level. Incumbent will have strong working knowledge of oncology physician practice operations and cancer programs.
The leader in this role must function interdependently, providing the opportunity and milieu for strategic direction and planning, establishing standards, establishing the budget, and monitoring operational performance. This leadership role is accountable for comprehensive knowledge of the program’s services, processes, and growth of assigned areas Learning organizations manifest themselves through systemic solutions, empowerment, and locality (decisions made by those doing the work). The incumbent is accountable to foster Renown Health as a learning organization.
This position will be responsible for maintaining positive relationships between the physicians, the community, and the hospital; for maintaining cost-effective but high-quality patient care; designing and teaching educational programs; complying with state, federal, and governing bodies regulations; and working cooperatively with other departments to achieve hospital goals.
The incumbent shall demonstrate visibility and build trust among all Renown Health PCI team members and physicians, promote the use of information technology and systems, participate in the Renown Health PCI goals, establish, and maintain budgets for responsible departments; implement new clinical and other programs; and complete other duties as assigned.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent will have several key initiatives and skills for success:
1. The ability to develop new businesses with a focus on the Patient Experience This will be accomplished through input and collaboration with clinical and non-clinical staff.
2. The ability to review and augment existing business service lines. This will include auditing, review of budget and expenses and the ability to manage through influence.
3. The ability to manage projects independently or collaboration within a team setting. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to set and adhere to timelines and other project management skills are necessary.
4. The ability to provide oversight of assigned departments related to human resource management, quality assurance, clinical care, and business development.
5. The ability to work on complex, cross-functional issues that consider the viewpoints of multiple stakeholders.
6. The ability to communicate and influence varying levels of leader and non-leader employees.
7. The ability to present coherent and compelling financial proposals to senior management.
8. Thorough working knowledge of EPIC and its functionalities within the Renown Health.
9. A good understanding of marketing and the ability to work with the marketing group to communicate change and development to external and internal customers.
10. A full picture view of the Renown Health Institute for Cancer and how it plays an integral and collaborative role within the system.
Financial Management
1. Provide monthly financial and operation performance improvement reports to the accountable leader on status of tasks or goals of the group practice.
2. Development and implementation of the group practice annual budgets. Provides projections and department analysis as needed and requested.
3. Ensure compliance to standards for the delivery of quality service and quality care in a cost-effective manner.
4. In conjunction with the department’s leadership and Medical Director, develops health care center operating plans and profitability goals.
5. In conjunction with leadership, be responsible for negotiation and implementation of all third-party payor contracts. Monitor all third-party payer contacts for profitability and recommend changes or terminations as indicated. Develop and maintain a rapport with payor contracts.
6. In conjunction with the leaders, establish and maintain outreach programs designed to contact non-utilizing patients and decrease overall attrition.
7. Conduct Financial Analysis of Group Practice
8. Maintain provider RVU compensation productivity reports
9. Calculate benchmarks against ourselves and other group practices
Human Resource Management
1. Consult with the leader on an as needed basis to implement operational and personnel changes to improve group’s functioning.
2. Provides effective leadership for the providers, support staff, including ancillary service where appropriate.
3. Evaluates and monitors staffing and provider scheduling.
4. Develops programs designed to obtain optimum morale and attitude.
5. Develops and maintains effective communication with the Medical Directors and other practice administrators.
6. Promotes teamwork between providers and support staff.
7. Develops and implements training programs for support staffing designed to enhance quality of care, service, cost effectiveness and teamwork.
Planning and Marketing
1. In conjunction with the leader, create marketing plans
2. Develop and implement community outreach, public relations, and customer relations programs.
3. Maintaining public awareness to what our physicians have to offer in service and procedures.
Business and Clinical Operations
1. Meet Joint Commission standards. Meets - All standards met without contingencies in departments reporting to the director. Exceeds - Hospital receives three-year Joint Commission standards accreditation.
2. Maintains or achieves unit or specialty certification. Meets - Maintains current certification (s). Exceeds - Achieves new certification, special recognition for certification, and/or corrects deficiencies to renew or obtain certification.
3. Strong knowledge physician practice metrics, compensation methodologies, and physician strategy
4. Strong knowledge and supporter of quality improvement
5. Participates in strategic planning activities, including facility management, project management
6. Is responsible for cleanliness, safety, attractiveness, and good repair.

Education:

Experience:
Minimum of two years’ experience in managing and leading groups, preferably in a healthcare environment. Minimum of three years’ experience in oncology specialty. Experience in marketing and/or project management highly preferred. Prior EPIC experience preferred.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a Nevada driver’s license at time of hire.
Certification(s):
OCN Certification preferred.
