The Manager, Business Development is a key player in executing Midland’s portfolio acquisition strategy. They are responsible for sourcing and vetting opportunities to purchase portfolios of non-performing loans in the charged-off debt sales market, and serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned relationships with key decision-makers at the sellers, which include banks, fintechs, auto financers, and other specialty or independent consumer finance companies. This position also serves as a conduit between sellers and Encore/MCM, driving the flow of information across various internal departments relating to those opportunities, and advising Business Development and Encore/MCM senior leadership on the status of assigned markets, purchase opportunities, and seller relationships. They lead or assist in executing various operational elements of the debt sale process, including preparing due diligence and evaluation materials, bid submissions, closing and funding materials, troubleshooting post-purchase issues, and participate in the negotiation of purchase and sale agreements. The Manager, Business Development is also well-versed in the dynamics of the charged-off debt sales market, possessing a strong understanding of the differentiation of product types, asset classes, and seller types, and maintains awareness of financial current events and the macro- and micro-economic trends impacting this market.
This position will report to the Director, Business Development and Strategic Partnerships.
10-15% travel required.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain contact with existing or prospective sellers to attract new business and maintain effective business relationships as directed. Travel required to perform this responsibility.
- Work with Director to conduct due diligence, review evaluation material, gather market intelligence and drive the flow of information between Business Development, Decision Science, Operations, Legal, Risk & Compliance, and other departments as necessary.
- Management of purchase and sale processes including identification and implementation of process improvements.
- Coordinate closing and funding processes, including contract negotiation, and facilitating hand-off to Post-Purchase Support and Operations.
- Maintain companies, contacts, and opportunities in Salesforce.com and ensures all are accurate and up to date.
- Monitor industrial and corporate development through the analysis of information obtained from a variety of sources including due diligence visits, industry / trade publications, company sources and conference / trade shows. Travel required to perform this responsibility.
- Responsible for preparing and maintaining department reports related to purchases and sales, and other duties as assigned.
Work Experience:
Required: 5 years of experience in B2B sales and marketing and/or relationship management, including new business development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred: Financial Service, Debt Collection industry experience.
Education:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or related fie.
Preferred: Master's or advanced degree.
