SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Marketing and Events Manager will enhance community engagement and fundraising efforts for York County SPCA through strategic storytelling, digital marketing, and event coordination.
Position Overview
The Marketing and Events Manager at the York County SPCA plays a pivotal role in driving the organization’s lifesaving mission through strategic storytelling, community engagement, and fundraising initiatives. This position manages all aspects of digital marketing, event coordination, and social media presence to strengthen the organization’s connection with the public and generate critical support for our programs. This position blends creativity, strategic thinking, and community-building expertise to engage audiences and drive support for the YCSPCA’s lifesaving mission.
Essential Functions
Digital Marketing/ Content Creation
As the storyteller for our organization, this position transforms the stories of the animals in our care, and the people who support them, into compelling content that inspires action.
- Maintain a comprehensive schedule of timely content across our social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and LinkedIn – with an emphasis on regularly scheduled video content (Reels, etc.)
- Publish a bi-weekly e-newsletter, using our email marketing software, ActiveCampaign
- Curate, write and publish timely blog posts, at least monthly
- Update website content as needed
- Create short form video content for digital distribution (shot on Smart phone)
- Curate, write, and edit the design, printing, and mailing of the bi-annual print newsletter
- Edit and proofread organization-wide published materials for comprehension and accuracy as needed
Fundraising
This role is expected to generate donated revenue through small-scale fundraising (typically generating up to $5,000 to 10,000 each) through projects like Giving Tuesday, Pet Portrait Fundraisers and others, totaling $50,000 per calendar year.
- Manages and promotes small-scale fundraisers including, but not limited to pet portrait fundraisers, Giving Tuesday and more.
- Supports the development department with fundraising-related marketing and events through content creation and dissemination through print and digital channels Implement new small-scale fundraisers, via digital marketing and/or events, to engage our community of supporters
Event Coordination
- In collaboration with the communications director and development team, coordinate community participation and promotion of our annual Give Local York campaign, our largest community driven fundraiser
- In conjunction with the operations team, creates and project manages the yearly events calendar, ensuring adequate staffing and promotion
- Outreach to local businesses and organizations to create opportunities to fundraise and promotion our lifesaving mission
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager and Community Engagement Coordinator to train volunteers to represent us at events
Analytics
- Use tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and email marketing software to monitor the performance of digital campaigns, identifying trends and opportunities for optimization
- Track and report on the outcomes of fundraising initiatives, such as total funds raised, donor engagement, and campaign ROI, to assess their effectiveness and inform future strategies
- Collaborate with the communications director to establish and track KPIs (key performance indicators) for marketing, social media, fundraising, and event success
- Analyze engagement metrics across platforms (e.g., reach, impressions, shares, clicks) to identify high-performing content and refine posting strategies for better audience engagement.
- Collect and analyze data from events, such as attendance, participant feedback, and fundraising results, to measure success and identify areas for improvement
- Provide monthly reporting on key efforts to the communications director
Internship Program
- In collaboration with the Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager, recruit and train college-level interns to increase the capacity of the communications, development and volunteer teams
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in creative/ professional writing, marketing, communications, or another closely related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience is sufficient
- A minimum of three years of full-time professional experience working in content creation, marketing, communications, or closely related field
Skills and Abilities
- Must possess excellent creative writing skill and the ability to craft compelling stories about our organization and the animals we care for
- Ability to use good judgement and always communicate professionally – act as a voice for our organization and our mission across mediums
- The ideal candidate for this position is deeply collaborative and willing to work across teams of staff, volunteers and community members to advance our mission forward
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and identify issues that should be raised with the Communications Director and the Executive Director as needed
- Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter on issues or projects
- Excellent computer skills, including a high degree of proficiency in Canva and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to navigate a multitude of software programs independently.
- Great interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to facilitate difficult conversations.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to pivot priorities quickly based on the organization’s needs at the time
Working Conditions and Expectations
- This position will require occasional night and weekend work. Flexibility and willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job is necessary. The York County SPCA will provide a flexible work schedule to compensate for evening and weekend work to ensure a healthy work/life balance. Typical work weeks are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Telework is available at the discretion of the communications director.
- Standard office environment, with exposure to environmental conditions that include working near domestic animals
- The Marketing and Events Manager must attend and pass the York County SPCA Dog Walking class. This role will be expected to be comfortable working with animals for promotional purposes which will involve interacting with them and walking them. Dog walking can be a physically demanding exercise and will include walking larger, stronger dogs that pull on the leash.
Salary and Benefits
- $60,000 - $65,000 per year, paid biweekly, direct deposit available.
- York County SPCA employee health care costs are thirty dollars ($30.00) per pay period. Vision and dental benefits are included.
- The York County SPCA offers retirement benefits with a dollar-for-dollar match up to a maximum of three percent (3%) of your salary per year. The organization offers a SIMPLE IRA.
- 200 hours of Paid Time Off (25 eight-hour days) plus six holidays and two floating holidays.
- Continuing education allowance as determined by the executive director
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, grasp, grip, put fingers together firmly and reach above and below shoulder level and lift, push and pull 40 pounds for situations of moving and lifting materials or supplies, repetitively use hands to operate computers; flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.
