Example of Duties
The Marketing Assistant supports the development of marketing materials, social media content, short form videos, and participates in public engagement opportunities, that help grow library usage and develop a positive relationship between the Anchorage Public Library (APL) and the community. Under the direction of the Marketing Supervisor, the Marketing Assistant is responsible for: developing original content for both print and digital projects using Adobe programs and web-based services; producing engaging creative content for all APL’s social media platforms, representing the department at various outreach events virtually and/or in-person; contributing ideas for future marketing campaigns; other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work. Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM. Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
OR
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, Communications, or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license at the time of hire.
Preferences:- 1 year social media content creation experience (may be volunteer)
- 2 years graphic Design for print and/or digital (may be volunteer)
- 1 year video content creation (may be volunteer)
- Knowledge of copyright laws related to library use of material for promotions, best practices for social media and marketing.

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $48.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
