Responsible for leading digital marketing efforts and communication functions for the Kenosha Public Library, enhancing brand visibility and community engagement while supporting organizational goals.
General Overview of Position
Example of Duties & Responsibilities
Directs and oversees the creation and delivery of internal/external communications and marketing solutions through multiple channels.
- Creates approaches to effectively communicate the breadth and depth of services and resources that are available.
- Conducts relevant market research, monitors trends, and analyzes the impact and ROI of all marketing communications and programs (internal/external).
- Ensures work is aligned with patron success metrics.
- Directs graphics, content marketing, and social media to produce messaging and narratives that work across multiple channels and engage targeted audiences.
- Identifies opportunities to position KPL with key constituencies.
- Develops and delivers reports and presentations as needed.
- Develops and leads initiatives to advance the relevance, resonance, and distinctiveness of the KPL brand by leveraging modern branding practices that measurably grow and deepen Kenosha residents’ perceptions and understanding of KPL’s values.
- Directs and oversees social media, website content, and graphic design to ensure quality and consistency in brand tone of voice, verbal identity, and visual creation across all internal and external touchpoints.
- Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to develop consistent processes and tools to build out the brand.
- Oversees the collection of key metrics to ensure accuracy for decision-making and inclusion in organizational reporting.
- Establishes and executes effective community relations strategies that support and further the mission, vision, and values of KPL.
- Directs and facilitates the establishment and maintenance of relationships with local, national media, and press outlets.
- Ensures the coordinated and timely flow of information and communication to key constituencies.
- Represents KPL professionally. Makes decisions on info release in compliance with laws governing patron confidentiality.
- Hires, assigns, trains, directs and supervises the communications staff as well as temporary staff, volunteers and interns in areas of responsibility.
- Coaches on industry best practices.
- Administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting direct reports including recruitment, orientation, training, setting performance goals, assigning and reviewing work, approving time cards, approving leave, appraising and disciplining, submitting records and documentation as required by Library Policy.
- Conducts regular staff meetings with subordinate staff.
- Communicates changes in policies and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.
- Provides technical guidance and support to ensure conformity with established policies, rules, and regulations.
- Anticipates and solves problems as non-routine situations arise.
- Collaborates and coordinates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish KPL goals.
- Uses and continually develops leadership skills, participates in ongoing development activities, regular training, as well as attending conferences.
- Submits annual budget request and monitors approved spending.
- Researches and implements cost savings where needed.
- Ensures budget guidelines are met and resources are appropriately allocated in areas of responsibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Two years of supervisory experience preferred; positions should show increasing levels of responsibility.
- Thorough knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of print and digital forms of graphic design, typography, and photography.
- Use of industry-standard graphic design programs on a Mac platform.
- Use of a PC and work with cross-platform software programs.
- Ability to work independently to create and produce a wide variety of materials.
- Ability to lead a small team and collaborate across departments to achieve success.
- Manage detail, recognize and set priorities, meet deadlines, work accurately, and maintain confidentiality.
- Far vision at 20 feet or further; near vision at 20 inches or less.
- Talking and hearing.
- Sitting, standing, walking, climbing (including stairs) and stooping, bending, twisting and reaching (up, across, and down). Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Keyboarding, writing, filing, sorting, shelving, processing, and picking up and shelving books.
- Lifting and carrying: 50 pounds or less.
- Pushing and pulling: objects weighing up to 60-80lbs pounds on wheels.
- Able to travel to meetings outside the library, including overnight travel.
- Able to work at all library branches and other service locations, as needed.
- Able to work in environmental conditions which may include exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, noise, fumes, odors, vibrations, wetness and humidity, and temperature changes.
- Able to use the following: audiovisual equipment, building security systems, calculator, computer workstation, copy machine, scan station, telephone, and other readily available technology.
